Tired of d20 yet?

Lemme put it this way: I get my fill of D&D (and HERO) in my regular groups. When given an opportunity, I look to play RPGs that are not D&D (or HERO). My wish list for GenCon doesn't include a single D&D (or HERO*) RPG event, and I rarely play D&D at Chicago Gameday.

That said, I am not "sick" of D&D; I'm simply an RPG slut, and I need my non-D&D (and non-HERO) fix when I can get it. I can play D&D (and HERO) anytime, but GenCon may be the only time I'll get a whack at, say, Burning Wheel.

As for being "sick of", i.e., "having come to dislike or no longer enjoy" d20-based games (D&D included), it hasn't happened yet. I will admit to leaning towards things outside the D&D norm (Eberron, Iron Lore, AU, etc.), as the D&D I play tends to be pretty straight-up. A couple of years of that will drive one to look for something different.

*Well, I'm running a HERO event at GenCon, so I didn't even look for one to play in. :)

Yes.

My one request when our group decided to change games was "not D20" (even though, originally, I had thought a D20 Modern campaign would be fun). Just one month ago, everything I ran or played in was D20 and I just wanted a little variety.

I got it. We will see how long before we return to D20. But I'm currently running 2 D20 games (classic 1e mods converted to 3.5 and an online The End D20 game), and playing in three others (the RPGA's Living Greyhawk and Living Death campaigns, and an Eberron game). Only my new Call of Cthulhu game I'm running is not D20. But when that campaign is over, that particular group may turn to another D20 game. Personally, I'd like to try Weird Wars D20, but I don't know if anyone else will go for it.

So many games, so little time! :)

WFRP should be a lot of fun for you - it's a great game. I wish I had a group who would really get into Ars. What I need is a bunch of graduate philosophy students with nothing better to do than think about their character concepts and how the covenant is unfolding. Unfortunately, the players in my group have a life outside of gaming... ;)

Well, a lot of the themes from WFRP featured in the game I played in back in NZ, as well as the game I ran over here.

As for Ars, it'll probably never happen. Some of the people I play with here would be perfect for it, but probably not enough. And since we're all finisheing or recently finished grad degrees, the time may have passed.

What, 'exalted fanperson dot net' not helpful with the d02? Really? :p

ACtualkly over the past 6 months they have gotten a lot better. Occasionally you'll see a d02 cxomment but its like Diaglo and his one true game and not near as bad as it used to be. THere are also lots more d20 discussion over then then a year ago. Sure, there are many Exalted fans there but d20 fans are showing up in numbers.

That is true. Although, to be fair, a lot of those d20 fans are folks from here. ;)

I do prefer to ask certain questions over there, though. It's funny when I ask the same setting development type questions here and there to see the difference in types of responses I get.

Getting kinda tired of D&D and d20 in general, but D&D much more so. I really want to run a d20 Modern game. WHFRPG 2e is looking super grand as well.

Still, it's likely to be a while before I'm entirely sick of either of them, d20 especially since it's capable of many different game styles. D&D is getting on my nerves though...
