D&D General Todd Kenreck Let Go from WotC

Don't have the info to answer this one way or another. Skills Vs direction were separate comments not tied together.
I was more wondering aloud. It doesn't seem like they have the room for a major course change--even 4e had a few years of runway before essentials, and 2024 seems better received.

Could we be seeing the preparation for a considerable course change?
I think so. Sigil was a bust and I feel like they were counting on monetizing it. My guess is 2024 wasnt the shot in the arm they were expecting. I think we're about to see a lot of splats coming in, which they had previously resisted to avoid burning out this edition. Later this year we've got what... Eberron, Horror, FR, plus whatever the Psion is in.

This is turning into a bloodbath...
Bloodbath is a bit of a strong word. Layoffs are part of being a member of the work force. Look for a new job and move on. It's not a fun experience, at all, and I wish this person well. I've been through it, several times. Wishing him well and offering support are what he needs. If you know of a job posting that fits his skill set, get in touch with him with that. This is a terrible experience, and if you can offer help please do.

But... come on. It's not the end of his world, or some sort of death sentence. Let's go easy on the melodramatics.

He got laid off, Perkins and Crawford bailed, Jess Lanzillo...

It's all pretty high profile.

I'm starting to wonder if everyone else who left did so because they could read the writing on the wall.
I hope so. HasBros' CEO, Chris Cocks, has triple-downed on his commitment to inject more AI into D&D + he's 1,000% dedicated to turning D&D into an IP cash-cow. We're seeing it happen. I told youz guys before and I'm still telling you: HasBro isn't super-interested in making a pen & paper ttrpg anymore - that ship has sailed and with it, most of WotC's staff.

Those who saw it coming left, and the rest will be laid-off.
