Jalban stops the group and whispers. "Dwarves, up ahead. Looks like three of them. We could ask them if they have seen any sign of goblin activity."
Jalban notices that two of the dwarves stand, looking right at the party. They don’t make any threatening motions, but you see one of them grabbing a battleaxe and hefting it over his shoulder just in case. While the second one who looks like a warrior readies a shortbow.

The third dwarf dressed in dark clothes, just watches, a black bird sitting on his shoulder, as he scans the oncoming party. It is obvious from their composure they see the party, as far as the half-orc ranger can tell.

The rest of the party can see the dwarf encampment, now that the half-orc has made it known that it is there.

OOC: Opposing spot check for the dwarves, they scored a 21 total for their highest roll. Both parties are aware of the other now.

Kerrik walks towards them calmly, keeping his hands by his side. He smiles, and introduces himself. Hi, my name's Kerrik. How are you doing?

Talk about a somber lot, Kerrik grumbles to himself.

Look, can we put down the weapons here?

Please roll a dilomacy check for me.

Bjorn walks up to the Dwarves holding his symbol of Corellon proudly yet demurly. "Greetings proud Dwarves. My name is Bjorn Alfson. I and my compatriots are looking for signs of Goblin activity in this direction. Have you seen any signs?"

The Dwarf with the Raven on his shoulder... Is he wearing any symbols that I might know of? Are any of them wearing symbols?

OOC: As an aside try to mark all OOC stuff as such, and place in rolls in the body of the text, I rarely look at titles of posts, and luckily I caught this one. Diplomacy check for Bjorn is 27, making the Dwarves go from Unfriendly to Friendly.

The dwarves all bear the same crest on medallions, or in the case of the warriors on the shields sitting at their feet. The crest if that adorns them is that of stylized ram’s head with black horns. Each of them carries a small holy symbol to Moradin on their person, be it a ring, or a necklace, signifying their faith which Bjorn and Drakor easily recognize. They listen to Kerrik, and then Bjorn, eyeing the holy symbol of Corellon, and standing slightly more at ease.

OOC: Drakor recognizes the crest as that of the Blackhorn Clan, led by Brokil Blackhorn, distant clan native to this region, and well known for their skill in mining. They are not active in the war in the Netherdeep against the drow, which is farther north. Knowledge Nobility & Royalty check of 17.

The dwarf with the raven on his shoulder steps forward, to address the party. He scans the group wrinkling his nose visibly at Jalban, be fore sweeping past the rest and focusing on Drakor, he speaks in dwarven in thick deep voice, “Greetings, I be Kolan, Moradin be praised I had not thought that I would see a scion of the Darkslayer clan this far south. I hope this does not mean the Darkslayer clan plans to move south eh?” he says a joking manner, although there is very little mirth in his tone, as he waits for a reply.

The shorter of the two warriors looks up to Bjorn, “Ain’t seen any signs of the wretched creatures. Been pretty dull if you ask me, all this pine and trees, too much open sky, and not even cold earth!”

The larger of the two warriors speaks, stroking his braided black beard, “Calm down Bal. Aye, like he said we have seen no signs, but that don’t mean they are not about. And we will put our weapons down when we bloody feel like putting our weapons down, Master Kerrik!”

Drakor nods at Kolan and speaks to him in dwarven “Aye, Drakor be me name, and you guessed it right from clan Darkslayer. Me clan be having no interest in the southern lands of clan Blackhorn. Me fellow adventurers and meself are scouting the area for signs of goblin activity for the village of Green Hills couple days north of here.”

Kolan mulls over the words before accepting them as truth, “In that case then welcome, I can’t say that we have met any goblins out here, milord, but if they be out then they best not stray to close, we won’t be giving them mercy.”

He gestures for everyone to sit around the fire, “We got some fresh boar, cooking on the spit, you is welcome to whatever we have left,” he says in all seriousness, “for a moment we was fearing bandits,” he says as he takes a seat. The raven flies up to a branch, on a pine tree and watches the area as Kolan takes a drink from his waterskin.

The other dwarves follow and take their seats on makeshift chairs, at ease, although their eyes dart about every now and then. Kolan continues, “We are waiting for our brethren who went up to the peak of Mount Arthrof to return, which should be a few days. If yer looking for goblins, then that would be a good place for them to hide. Moradin would be pleased if you sent some of them wretches back to the Abyss where they belong!”

Bal sits near the spit and begins cutting at the boar exposing the meat inside. He serves healthy pieces of boar with dry biscuits, and passes around a jug of what is labeled green mushroom brandy. The other dwarf, who is named Puck, or at least goes by that name is sitting dour and says little eating. Not so subtly watching Jalban.

Kolan continues, “Green Hills that small village passed through, once or twice. They don’t bother us much, and we don’t bother them folks, works well for us.”

Bjorn eats and drinks as best he can knowing his constitution is nothing compared to a Dwarves. "Kolan, Your People would be most welcome in Greenhills. We're a trading town and very open to all people. I would love for you to see the Temple of the Crescent Moon I minister to."

Kolan tugs at his beard, "Ahh a priest, and a priest of the Fair One at that," he mutters, "perhaps if I make the misfortune to stumble into that little temple, if Moradin don't strike me down first then I might listen to a bit of your prattling."

Bal grunted, "Green Hills, I got a cousin in Green Hills, living like a bumpkin. How he can stand an honest day without putting his back into the mines is beyond me, a proper dwarf hold is a proper place for a dwarf, far from these twinkling stars..." he mutters.
