Tome of Treasure and what is "core"- I am a little worried

So, what is going to be required to play the game? And what is going to be out every year?

PHB $30
DMG $30
MM $30
ToT $30

Optional yearly stuff:

A Campaign Setting $30-50?
The Campaign Setting's Adventures $20-30?

Online stuff:

DDI $10-15/month
Online Figure $X? for how many?

I also heard their was some sort of "complete arcane" type pf book too coming out.

My worry here is that I wont have enough money to get all the stuff that is coming out! It is a major money sink!

Who said you'll need the Tome of Treasures to play the game? 4th Edition will have the same book requirements as previous editions: 1 Monster Manual, 1 DMG, 1 PHB. $90 to fulfill the gaming needs of 5-6 people seems pretty reasonable to me.

Nobody I know has EVER had enough money to get all the D&D stuff that was coming out! Unless I become independently wealthy - and no one I know is - my strategy for D&D 4th Edition will be the same as all previous editions: Buy the stuff that gets my interest, and ignore or borrow everything else.

I'm sure that all that stuff and more is coming out; in fact, I'm pretty sure that if someone thinks that there will not be a large number of books for 4E - fully as many or more than 3E had - then they are not thinking clearly. I can't see any of those, even campaign books and such, being 'core' in the sense of 'being required to play the game'. Just plan on getting the first three and then see how things go from there.

Several details you're missing:

The PHB/MM/DMG are $35 a piece.
The "complete" type book is probably going to cover more power source/role variations. I'm guessing 2-3 per year.
Generic Adventures (non-campaign adventures) $25. Guessing 3-4 per year.
Dungeon Tiles $10
Real Minis $15/pack

I don't think that by calling it core they are saying it's required to play. More in that because it's "core" and not "optional" they can freely add anything from subsiquent splat books into adventures or other splatbooks without feeling guilty.

So, if expansion book A has the Gnomasaurus then adventures X, Y & Z can referance it freely.

In the past they've had to limit referancing optional material in further products. This leads to a cleaner core, but less supported supplements. The onus was on wizards to seperate them. Now they can referance all their IP freely and the onus is on the player/DM to have that book/ignore it/change it as needed. Is it the fairest solution? Maybe, maybe not. I'll have to see. Is it a good design solution? Yes, I think it is. From thier point of view.

Where did you get the idea that ToT is going to be a yearly release?

Online figures costing extra? I thought that story had been dispelled.

Regardless, if you cannot afford additional books, don't buy them. The game will still be playable. If you feel you have to buy every D&D publication they release, get an additional job. It will easily buy you one book and a D&DI subscription every month, with the added benefit of reducing your available time to play D&D, therefore reducing your need for all the books and a D&DI subscription.
