<snip>Besides, I don't think the the Gate starts dematerialzing and transmiting matter until the entire object has passed throught the event horizon. The only exception being when the gate shuts down while something is passing through it. In which case, the part in the wormhole is dematerialized and transmited, with the rest being cut off.

Good point, and as soon as I read your reply it triggered memories of those eppisodes. So much for having Season's 1-6 in DVD :P Gonna hate loosing those (they're my roomate's and he's moving :( )

Well, he is just energy, and energy can only move at the speed of light. So, it'd at least take a few years before he could reach another solar system. And we've never seen Anubis move that fast, either.

Entirely true, and the speed limit was why I said it would take a while. If they realy needed him back (to boost ratings or something) they could have him risk some sort of Accended-equivilent of Hyperspace or something.

As to him never moving that fast before, we'd only seen him in bits and pieces of one eppisode, all of which took place inside a very very small space if you're talking light speed. He was totaly focused on trying to get through the Stargate, it's doubtfull he'd take a sure-fire slow way back if he had a Stargate available.

Of course this begs the question of why he stayed in orbit for so long instead of just 'flying' down to earth in his energy state. We may never find out unless/until a writer decides it's something he needs to explain to further another plot. Still, debate is endlessly fun :p

Daniel Jackson explained it quite clearly.

Anubis wants to avoid using his ascended abilities.

Daniel used his Ascended powers, and the Ancients booted him from the club back to temporal bodyhood. What do you think would happen if Anubis was booted back to temporal bodyhood? A symbiote doesn't exist quite well anywhere but a host--and that's assuming that they just boot him back to corporeality for what he did.
