I think you need to remove the "1" qualifier for Pirates of the Caribbean- the second movie is better than the first IMO, and as far as gaming goes- they freaking play Liar's Dice as a major plot point! How much more gamer-friendly can you get?

And since wuxia films are on the list (Hero, House of Flying Daggers), you simply must add the one that brought them to mainstream American audiences- Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

If History of the World (Part 1) makes the list, then other Mel Brooks films should as well- notably Spaceballs and Robin Hood: Men in Tights.

Darn I quoted the wrong Robin Hood...I meant for the Prince of Thieves to be Men in Tights

And Spaceballs doesn't quite fit the list of fantasy or contemporary fantasy that I am going for. ( Pirates 2 is alright but 1 was a much more grim and gritty film and meets my definitions better)

As for crouching tiger hidden dragon I have not seen it

Adventurer
The two Sinbad movies from the 60s-70s should be on the list. They are basically D&D movies - a party of adventurers going on a quest, fighting monsters and evil wizards.

And of course, Hawk the Slayer, which inspired many a D&D game. At least the elf did.

Conan the Barbarian ... or was it the destroyer ... can't remember which. Oh, and "The Gamer's" ... ghetto, but with hilarious truth!

Am I missing it, or is Lord of the Rings not on that list? :)

Dagon is a good film to include, as one of the few Lovecraft-inspired films ever made.
The various Harry Potter films
Beastmaster
Time Bandits
The various Harryhausen Sinbad movies must be included, of course.
The animated Sinbad from a couple years ago
Erik the Viking
Big Trouble in Little China
Dragon Inn
Musa the Warrior

Sir Brennen

Legend
You have "The Last Unicorn" listed twice.

Krull should be up there.

Kull the Conqueror is debatable as "quintessential", saved perhaps by this line:

Ascalante: Your bride is over 3,000 years old.
Kull: She told me she was 19!

Could we discuss the criteria for this list?

So far we have geeky fantasy films. Why is Robin Hood Prince of Thieves there, or any Mel Brooks film, if we're talking about fantasy films?

The Long Ships with Richard Widmark and Sidney Poitier, made in 63. It is about vikings looking for a great golden bell called the Mother of Voices. Poitier is a Moorish prince seeking the same. It is gamer related in the adventure set up and how Richard Widmark's viking goes about accomplishing things.

You have D&D 1 but not D&D 2 which is the better movie of the two.

Bulletproof Monk is far more fantasy than Gladiator.

Gnomemobile..... :\ Cute movie but you have a very flexible guideline for inclusion on this list.

Yeah, Kull should be in there, along with A Knight's Tale ("Pain! Pain!", and the best on-screen bard I've seen) and The Three Musketeers (Kiefer Sutherland, Oliver Platt and Charlie Sheen).
