I'd like to see iconic fantasy creatures from the core Monster Manual.

1. Some fey! As far as I can recall we haven't yet gotten many, if any, fey.

2. The smaller dragons with poses like the Large Red Dragon from Dragoneye.

3. Iconic humanoids with more variety in character class. Cleric giants, wizard hobgoblins, druid gnolls, and ranger lizardfolk.

Well you have to remember that Giants of Legends didn't sell well, in fact it sold horribly, mostly due to the poor huge figure distribution/rarity. I'd be surprised to see another D&D huge pack if the same problem happens with the up coming SWM huge pack. Getting 5 of the same figure in a case of 6 may not bug the RPGers that buy them but it really annoyed the miniature players.

Incredible. So many wrong facts.

A case of GoL was 12 figures. You were pretty much assured of getting 1 copy each of 3 of the 6 rare huges, and 1 or 2 copies of each of the 6 uncommons. (Every so often, there may have been a mistake - but almost all the time that was the distribution).

Giants of Legends sold poorly? I asked Mike Donais about this yesterday. What did he say?

"Indeed Giants of Legend sold great. Some reports have it as the best set of all time."

The Miniatures team fully admit that the rarity system for the huges wasn't great. Also from Mike:

"When we do huges again we will improve the uncommon:rare ratio some to make it easier to collect."

That probably means a 1:2 ratio. (I'd say 6 rares, 9 uncommons, but we don't know for sure. We'll know more after GenCon).

Thanks for clearing that up. Hey, point Mike in the direction of this thread, if you think he might give a mouse's patoot (I'm sure wish lists are nothing new to him).

:)

Mike and Rob regularly read the wish lists on the Wizards boards and make notes. (It's one reason it's worthwhile posting occasionally there).

I guess we have Mike Mearls to make notes of this one. ;)

Cheers!

Cheers!

Mearls can undoubtedly see the minis from an RPGers point of view (which also happens to be my point of view as I'm not interested in skirmish), so any desires I may have had will probably be expressed by him.

It's all good. :)

How many heads would you like to see on that hydra?? ;) I know my players in my group that I DM really like to see an actual representation of creatures. We have a plethora of minis and some are so bland. I think stirges would be a great mini to have. I recently threw a handful of dice on the battle mat and called them stirges!

Any idea where I can find a good bunch of gnome minis? I am looking for a wizard in particular.

Nebin the Gnome Illusionist (I think from Harbinger) is a decent mini for that role. Otherwise, check out Reaper miniatures.

Thanks,
Rich

My wish list in no particular order except for number 1.

1. Tiamat
2. Rust Monster
3. Swarms - any vermin is fine
4. Stirges
5. Kuo-Toa
6. Giant Ants
7. Roper
8. More Females - all races, all classes and mixed assortment of weapons please
9. Large Spider
10. Beatles of all kinds
11. Living Spells
12. Gelatinous Cube
13. Some Weapons please - Ballista, Trebuchet, Catapult :D

We definitely pay attention to lists like these. Keep 'em coming.

I can also say that, looking over the lists of suggestions, a lot of people are going to be happy with the choices we've made for the next few sets.

9. Large Spider
There's actually been a Large Monstrous Spider in the sets almost from the beginning.

I wish there were some non-colectable/random minis that were put out. I like their minis, but I hate having to sink a ton of money into a random picking.
Crystal Caste does a nice line of well-painted pewter miniatures; I think there are around 25 different ones, although they're all PC races. Dwarven Forge does a line of resin figures; I believe they have sets of orcs, lizardfolk, and skeletons. They're very nice, IMO, although a little brittle. They break easily ... DDM's nigh-indestructibility is one of my favorite things about them.

Merric likes to point out something I believe to be a truism: when it comes to pre-painted miniatures, you can choose two of (a) affordable, (b) large selection, or (c) non-random. You simply can't, because it violates economic principles, have all three of those.

As for what minis I'd like to see, I'd prefer they focus on the iconic D&D monsters before getting into all the unusual ones that can be found in all the non-Core monster rulebooks.
Well, this would be killing the goose that laid the golden egg, wouldn't it? Why would anybody but the most die-hard collectors (and maybe skirmishers) continue to buy DDM if everything they want for RPG has already been released? Without the roleplaying third of the DDM market, the line would almost certainly fail.

16. Giant Praying Mantis- again with the vermin, but perhaps the freakiest lookin' of the MM vermin...
There's a Fiendish Giant Praying Mantis. It gets no respect, but I actually like it quite a bit, for the reason you cite.

Roper (lack of mobility makes it DDM-unfriendly I’d guess)
The Beholder only has a speed of 2 (although it can fly). I don't think the roper is viable for skirmish, although it would certainly be an interesting piece if you made it an affordable wandering monster. Those 50 foot tentacles would give it real bite, so to speak. In any event, they produce plenty of figures that aren't really viable for skirmish ... not even for semi-serious casual play. The roper would be excellent for the RPG, and that seems to be a good enough reason to include it. I'm not sure how they'd handle the tentacles in the sculpt, but I wouldn't be shocked to see a roper in Underdark.
