Thats what I think. Hes pissed because I outsmarted him.
Have you tried talking to the DM about what's going on? If he's the kind to pull what you've described, it might not do much good, but if you simply ask him about his perspective without making him feel he's being attacked (again, hard to pull off considering he's doing some really dumb stuff), he might see your POV and reconsider.

I spent 2 hours discussing it with him. I was rational and calm but I just can't see his point of view.

I'm not even really upset with the 5 magic item rule. Sure I would have liked to take all the items we looted but no big deal. Its the whole loss of Paladinhood thing that erks me.

This is that last straw with him too. Im going DM shopping this weekend.

I would classify the destruction of the item as a Chaotic Good act. That doesn't change your alignment, nor do I think it should threaten your Paladinhood.

However, your actions were a direct result of your character's greed. I can, to a certain extent, see the top of the paladin slide (with blackguard at the bottom).

But as Artoomis pointed out, all is not lost. Seek out your church, atone, and maybe see if your GM will work with you on an item like the Phylactery of Faithfulness that will let you know if an action you are considering would violate your Paladin code. Also, talk to the GM (calmly) and find out what his reasoning behind the decision was. Don't whine, threaten, or belittle. Be an adult (even if he won't). You'd be surprised at the sheer number of problems that can be solved by that.

If all else fails and your paladin is on the fast track to hell, then enjoy it. Start murdering peasants. Like that blacksmith in the last town, you know he cheated you a few copper coins when he re-shod your horse. Or how about those town guard that wouldn't let you enter town without peace-bonding your weapons? I bet they wouldn't be so hasty to strike at you when you have a few orphans strapped to your armor.

Be evil, you know you want to.

Better yet, Magesmiley has the right idea for Blackguard: BAB +6, 5 ranks in Hide, 2 ranks in Knowledge (religion), Cleave, Improved Sunder, and Power Attack. [never understood that "improved sunder" requirement]

Make peaceful contact with an evil outsider (so many choices!) and pledge yourself to the powers of  !

Hmmmm, 15th level Elf paladin becomes 15th level Blackguard......I could screw up so many things in the campaing. It might be fun.

Am I just whining or is that bull?
That is Bull!

Wow, that is not a game I'd play a palaldin in. When the paladin has to take evil magic items as prisoners, that is a real problem. Talk about the paladin being...

While I am confident the DM might have had a legit reason, as in the blade was a corrupted Holy Avenger that could have been saved, it sounds like you were not clued in. And even if breaking It released a fiend from it, that’s not your fault when common sense says break it. Now if the Daemon materialized and you walked away and said “Not My problem” That would be a dereliction of your duties as a paladin.

The only way the paladin power yank could have been justified was if you used claiming the blade for your church as a means of getting more than a deserved share of the treasure.

The 5 items sounds fine to me, go dimension hopping and gods only know what can happen through those portals. Not any worse than the "body slots" used to determine how may items one can wear.

Hell, the DM might have felt the item should have come out of your share of the treasure. Believe it or not, there are folks who feel that way. Here is a thread on the subject.

Should the Paladin pay for Evil Magic Items he wants / has destroyed?

I totally agree that limiting treasure or whatever can be done when dimension or plane hopping, pretty much anything can happen when you cross borders, the problem I have is: "We were later informed by a strange voice that we would be shown to a portal that would take us home but we would each only be allowed to remove 5 magic items fom this dimention." What kind of BS is that? Have you ever used the disembodied voice of narration from above in your games? Ever experienced it as a player?

I think my character would take everything that he wanted, assuming it was some kind of glamer or ventrilloquist skill...literally some kind of joke.
