Tournament of Champions CR .5 to 5 (Archive)

When Nail stands up, Gauf's bites him (rolled 28-9=19) for 11 points of damage. Nail has 6 HP remaining.

Nail bites back (rolled 29) for 3 points of damage. Gauf's has 68 HP remaining.

Round 6

Gauf's claws once and bites (worst hitting roll 21) for a total of 5 points of damage. Nail has 1 HP remaining.

Nail breathes out a blast of sound, which Gauf's does not dodge (14 Ref save), taking 13 points of sonic damage. Gauf's has 55 HP remaining.

Round 7

Gauf's claws twice and bites for a total of 12 points of damage. Nail is dead as a nail.

Greybar was hoping for good rolls. There were plenty of those. Unfortunately for Nail, the good rolls were for Gauf's.

The winner, in 7 rounds, by KO, Gauf's! He did not even have to use his favorite breath weapon.

OOC: this one was interesting to me because it got into a case I didn't really know how to handle... essentially a dogfight. The first mover provokes the AoO. I suppose I could have done a Refocus action to become the second mover, technically.

There's no refocus action. I think you mean just delay until the opponent went.

G'faus had hover, and that would have been his move if in the opposite situation, but its the dogfight + being a smaller dragon thats a problem.
the CG dragon got massacred in the same situation.

btw: I named Nail orginally based on the poem/ nursery rhyme:

For want of a nail the shoe was lost.
For want of a shoe the horse was lost.
For want of a horse the rider was lost.
For want of a rider the battle was lost.
For want of a battle the kingdom was lost.
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.

“Our second semifinal match features the best of the Chaotic Neutral forces against the best of the Lawful Evil forces.”

“Making his way to the eastern side of the arena, this combatant measures 4 feet high and weighs 320 pounds. He is undefeated with a record of two wins, zero losses, and one draw. Representing the forces of Chaotic Neutral, please welcome the young fang dragon Faaaaaaaaaaaaaang Threeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!”

The hoots and hollers of the Chaotic Neutral faction welcome Fang III’s entrance. This sheet-metal-colored dragon stands on all fours, pawing at the earth in restless anticipation of the impending bloodshed. Long, sharp spikes cover his body and his silver teeth glisten. He has an abnormally large mouth and larger claws than would normally be attributed to such a dragon. He opens his mouth and the crowds and his opponent hear the sounds of an tiger. Around his neck, you can clearly see a silver medallion. As the Arena sensor cameras zoom in, the crowd notices the following words engraved in obsidian lettering: CN 5, LN 0.

“And now making her way into the southwestern portion of the arena, this combatant also measures 4 feet tall and weighs 320 pounds. She has a record of two wins, one loss, and zero draws. Representing the forces of Lawful Evil, please welcome the very young blue dragon Jalnurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!”

Jalnur flies awkwardly into the arena. She has dramatic frilled ears and a single massive horn erupting from her snout. The smell of ozone lingers near her, and her azure-tinged scales glitter in the light.

Psybo communicates telepathically to the two combatants. “Jalnur will have the initiative in the first round. Fang will decide where the two combatants will start.”

Skills & Feats for Fang:[sblock]Diplomacy, Escape Artist, Knowledge (dungeoneering), Listen, Search, Spot
Ability Focus (ability drain), Improved Initiative, Improved Natural Armor, Power Attack
Prepped: Shield[/sblock]

Dr. J, humming Ace Frehley's "Ozone", starts the festivities with a lightning breath, then takes wing, gallantly ending his ascent at 110n35e30z.

Round 1

Fang III partially dodges the electricity (18 Ref save), but still takes 6 points of electrical damage. Fang III has 70 HP remaining.

Ugulu[sblock]Jalnur can use breath weapon next round.[/sblock]

Fang flies to 110n40e30z heading northwest, coming in at an angle in order to avoid an AoO.
[sblock] If an AoO presents itself, it will be with a claw.[/sblock]

"Get out'a my grill, sucka."

Dr. J. turns up the voltage again, then dives beneath his awkward opponent (hoping the AoO is not too harsh) and moving to 40n90e25z heading sw.
