Tournament of Champions CR .5 to 5 (Archive)

Jalnur appears to be very, very, happy.

And she breaths a beautiful bolt of lightning and hopes that the rest of her action will not be required.

Round 14

Jalnur, having the fog of confusion lifted from his mind, blasts G'aufs with a bolt of lightning breath. G'aufs dodges (Ref save 22+2=24), but it does not matter because he still takes 9 points of electrical damage. He dies in the fall.

The winner in round 14 by LB: Jalnur!

Jalnur was one of the few combatants to become confused and still stay in the arena. She was able to ride it out until it wore off.

Congratulations, Jalnur. Do you have any last words for the spectators?

Jalnur tries to be graceful, but the only thing on her mind is getting out of the arena so she can throttle the officer in charge of her tactics as he almost cost her the match.

The gallery is ecstatic, and the bookies are taking a bath.

OOC: Really didn't think J could do it - the dice gods gave her just enough saves and good confusion rolls to survive. I think the 60' breath weapon was a big help - with a cone she would have needed more movement.

Woohoo!!

Nicely played, Jalanur, I was never sure if you were confused or not..
OK, I'll admit, I'm pretty proud of this weasel-y tactic - would only work with a creature with average INT or better I presume. I didn't (still don't) know if the effect was a fixed # of rounds, but I was hoping it was somewhat randomized so that the bluff wouldn't look totally silly (i.e. it's a fixed duration of 4 rounds, and in round 6 I'm still babbling...)

Congratulations, Ugulu. Please E-mail me for your real secret on how you won the ToC. I have yet to win a single battle as LN, although Infiniti's good moves and arena choices have as much to do with that as my poor moves and arena choices.

I don't know about some of the other ToC winners (well, not Ferris), but luck was possibly bigger than skill. Fang III got extremely cold dice, J dodged one hit because of attacking on the defensive, then stayed in the arena throughout the confusion - all of which you would not expect to happen again.

“Welcome back everyone, to the CR 5 edition of the Tournament of Champions! I hope you will enjoy our new arena! Just don’t spit on the trees or I will stomp you into the ground! Our first quarterfinal match features the best of the Lawful Neutral forces against the best of the Chaotic Neutral forces.”

Making his way to the western side of the arena, this combatant measures 6 feet 2 inches tall and has no appreciable weight. His counterpart Otto, who was ejected from the TBoAA association for not paying his dues, was undefeated in the main battle, with a record of zero wins, zero losses, and one draw. He flew away from Neutral’s powerful tendriculos. Representing the forces of Lawful Neutral, please welcome the frostfell ghost Georrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrge!”

George floats into the arena to the polite applause of the Lawful Neutral faction of the audience. His exquisitely tailored clothes lose some of their luster when you notice his blue, cracked lips and face that is streaked with frozen blood. Despite his stiff, frozen lips, George projects an urbane manner when he smoothly declares, "Let us get this over with. I have, err….. something to do."

“And now making his way to the eastern side of the arena, this combatant measures 8 feet square and weighs 100 pounds. His counterpart Tak was also kicked out, but he was also undefeated, having a record of zero win, zero losses, and one draw in the main battle. He flew away from a large ice paraelemental. Representing the forces of Chaotic Neutral, please welcome the cloaker Klaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!”

The audience sees a wooden hatrack standing in the arena with seven large, thick, black cloaks hanging on it. The cloaks stir a little as Psybo begins the announcements, as if a strange wind has picked up. Two blood red eyes look out from inside each cloak, or maybe on each cloak. The audience gasps at such a bizarre sight.

Psybo communicates telepathically to the two combatants. “Klack, you will have initiative in the first round. George, you will choose the starting positions.”

OOC: I still need a volunteer to play George.
