Trolls

I also use the MM Ogre as my Troll. Big, dumb and strong - plus the picture of the Ogre in the MM looks just like how I picture a Troll to look like.

But how do you explain that a fighter with a 25 Fort save fails his save against a first lvl mage´s Ray of Enfeeblement just because he rolled a 1?
That I don´t understand. Seriously.

Asmo

Which is why, for saving throws (and to-hit rolls IMHO), using the 20=30 and 1=-10 variant makes a lot of sense.

In this instance the +25 Fort Save fighter would end up with a 15, which is almost certainly going to be enough to make his save against the mage's spell.

They are the more fearsome and gruesome creatures on the planet... Have colorful hair that sticks straight up... and those eyes! Those eyes!

(((shudder))) looks like young Olsen Twins...

The Jester,

Calan plans on bringing back his ranger/druid. The monk had only been with the campaign for a few games.

Asmo,

None of my players have a problem with the rule and even use it in their own campaigns. I should also say that the rule was created by the group I play with and not just me. I like because there is a chance of failure no matter what level your character or how high his skills are. If you know you can succeed everytime, where is the fun in that? Too each their own I guess.

Decado

Don´t take it personal Decado.
I know that other groups usues that ruling to,but I don´t.

But as all the great people on this board says: what matters is that you have fun. And that is my goal to: to keep my players happy.

So I wish You and your group many hours of fun gaming!!

In general I use the old fashioned green with long nose type. Though in one world I help design I have made variants on trolls including Rock and Forest. :)

I've thought about that too ... only I keep coming with almost the same exact as stats as dwarves ...

That's exactly why I would get rid of dwarves as they pretty much fill the same niche. Elfquest trolls are very close to the dnd dwarf especially mechanically (in my mind at least) but they have a lot darker bend to them. Where a dwarf might be frugal a troll would be greedy. Where a dwarven kingdom might have a strong military to defend their home a troll would have one to conquer and subdue.

And besides they're green and so they look a little less like disproportioned humans. Oh and them maybe you could have half-elf/half-trolls :D
