Truckers on strike? End of civilization as we know it?

So my mom just called. She says truckers are going on strike. People are lining up at the pumps. We've all got to drop what we are doing and run get gas before it's too late. Mass hystria! Cats sleeping with dogs! Real Biblical chaos! The end is nigh!

So um... Is anything happening I'm not aware of in my little hole of an office, or are truckers actually going on strike. If so, what does this mean?

I get nothing on CNN or Fox News.

There was a massive slide in oil prices yesterday.

It lasted about 2 hours before oil once again shot back up.

The guy at our gas station said the next time it comes in, he's been told the price will be 3 bucks a gallon. And we are about 10 cents below the national average.

Expect gas prices to hit all time record highs (again) in the next few days.

And the newsguys will finally be able to stop putting in "it still less than what it was during the Iran hostage situation when adjusted for infalation".

Though the YEARLY average has already kicked the old yearly average (when adjusted for inflation) in the groin. With Steel-toed boots. +5 Boots of groin stomping.

Don't expect gas to drop till winter (and maybe not even then).

Since truckers (esp owner/operators) work on contracts, they are seeing their profit margins plumet. I wouldn't be surprised in some truckers did go on strike to try to re-negotiate their contracts.

Or, it could all be hysteria based of rumours.

Or, Alabama could have a Hurricane starting to form up & head your way.

As a result of this post, I fully expect gas prices to rise 2 cents, based on reports a Hurricane might develop, which might damage gulf oil production and some idiot is going around kicking gas station attendents in the groin.

As it turns out, that's exactly what it was. Even as the radios were telling people it was a false rumor, every one of the gas stations I passed were absolutly PACKED.

Mass hysteria springing from unfounded rumors makes me laugh. :)

I saw a brief story on Fox the other day about a small group of independent truckers who were protesting the high gas prices, I think it was in Florida, but I'm not sure.
