As Tor and Sheldon return to camp, Tor mentions the danger to everyone...
Sannit says, "... It might try to go for the horses."

Bolo says, "Turtle and I will see if we can get the scent to know what we are dealing with."
Merin says, "... I will stay here, and protect the Windrunners. They are a valuable asset to us, and must not be neglected."
Before full preparation can be made a brazen pod of wolverines strides into view. Turtle and the horse crinkle their noses at the unfamiliar scent, but the knowledge of a dangerous predator is instinctive. Turtle begins to emit a low growl and the horses begin to shift in an uneasy manner, snorting.

There are six of the beast loping forward at an easy pace. One is heading toward Sheldon and Tor, or more specifically the carcass they are transporting. One is heading directly toward Bolo and Turtle. One is heading toward the colts, but must pass Merindell and Indigo to reach them. One is headed toward the lead horse and Sannit. One is heading directly at Vadin, but the last stops and sniffs at the air, not approaching anything in particular.

Sannit holds his fist in the air and screams, "Wolverines!" If he sees any of the creatures approach to attack he will intercept and attack with his spear.

Bolo will attempt to use Way to convince the wolverines to abandon this attack and find easier prey.

Turtle bows up, ready to scrap. If any of the wolverines approach to attack Bolo he will intercept and attack.

Coming out of his weeks long trance, where it seems he has been just hunting and not interacting, Vadin sees the wolverine approaching. He stands up as tall as he can to look bigger, all the while preparing to grab his sword if needed to defend himself. He looks at the wolverine, watching its move, puffing out his chest, trying to look bigger in hopes that this will simply scare the beast away.

Tor is not impressed. He brandishes his sword and shield, and lets out a loud, brutal, gutteral ROAR, as he charges the Wolverine that is coming towards him! Tor knows that predators prefer easy prey, and he hopes to make an example of this creature, so that the others will flee. Rather than posturing, Tor intends to take ACTION, because he knows that the Wolverines are themselves aggressive, and anything less than aggressiveness will be seen as weakness.

Merin has the same thought, although his methods are more subtle; Merin intends to stun the Wolverine that is headed for the Windrunners. He claps his hands together, sending a sonic burst directly at the Wolverine approaching his position.

Torvald reacts with uncanny speed for such a large man. As he lunges forward, the exceptionally quick wolverine launches his own assault and Sheldon moves around behind Tor, to his left, to be away from his sword arm. As he moves, the sunlight warps around Sheldon in a manner before unseen by the other Seekers, causing his image to be blurred.

Tor slam his shield into the leaping beast, its snout snapping ineffectively at Tor's shoulder. The thick hide and long fur soak the force of the blow but the wolverine is sent sailing through the air backward ten strides away. It lands, unharmed, snarling, and tears back after the big Norikadian.

Neither the blow nor the assault on its mind have changed its intention to continue attacking.

Indigo had already drawn her twin swords at Tor's first proclamation, manipulating the Way lines within herself to enhance her own motility and moved to bodily impede the wolverine now approaching.

Indigo slides around the snapping jaw of the wolverine and slashes its underside with quick flick of her right saber, but the weapon is unable to penetrate the hide. A mere 9 tics after the blow, faster than any brain can register, a pulse of air accompanied with a high-pitched tone hits the wolverine. The force of air throws the thing throws the thing back 4 strides, but it is the tone that does all the damage, wrecking it mind and driving away its consciousness. The only unengaged wolverine quickly charges to take the place of the fallen one.

Vadin quickly realizes that this beast is not motivated by normal predatory behavior and later learns, that like feral cats, it is one of the few animals that kills for fun.

The wolverine moves like lightning, chomping down on Vadin's left forearm, puting his body out of position to bring his saber to effectively bear. The beast continues to hang on and jerk on the arm like a canine would. As it continues to apply pressure, it fails to realize this makes himself more vulnerable to the other hand.

With Torvald having to wait the three seconds for the wolverine to cover the distance it was thrown, Sheldon reacts first, generating a bright flash in the eyes of the fowler. The flash temporarily dazes it, but the end result is of null effect. As the avaricious beast reaches Tor for its second assault, Tor ineffectively stabs with his sword and fails to muddle its mind as well. The wolverine stays near the feat of Tor, crowding the man and continuing to attack.

As the fowler and Indigo engage ineffectively, a powerful pulse of air bombards the beast. A pulse with even more force than the one that struck the previous beast. The second victim of Merindell not only loses consciousness but sustains significant physical damage as well.

With the enemy numbers down by half, Bolo tries again.

Bolo has greater effect on altering the aggression of the wolverine, but not enough to take command of it.

The conflict between the bear and the wolverine seems one sided. The fowler cannot hurt the bear and Turtle keeps knocking the beast away, but cannot harm it, either.

Sannit will continue to fight the wolverines. He will engage the closest one not occupied, or he will work his way towards Bolo and Turtle to help them.

Initially Bolo did not want to harm the wolverines simply for hunting, but their stubborn nature irks her. She shrugs one shoulder and decides if they will not run, then they will die. "I'm sure we can make something useful out of your hides," she mumbles to herself. She will Acidify either the closest or most aggressive wolverine.

Turtle will continue to fight.
