TUW: The Outpost

Adisakti looks at Taylar...what were you doing when you touched the ground back there, before we fought the spiders

Taylar shrugs as he replies, "I was feeling the ground to determine if there were any vibrations indicating that something was beneath us and attempting to burrow up and surprise us. I don't believe in 'good luck' rituals. And in case you didn't know, maldrog can speak to stones and the rock at the edge of town would really like it if you stopped kissing it. It said it doesn't rain often enough to wash the smell away." Taylar lets out a loud laugh at his joke.

Should we just go in as a group along our path here, or should we send Maka up ahead to scout it out while the rest of us flank the area ahead, two to a side?

Taylar says, "We can send Maka a little ahead to make sure it's not a trap, but regardless of whoever is using that fire we are going to engage and at least speak with them, right? I mean, there's no one else out here, we might as well, and if they're not the ones we're looking for then we can at least warn them of hostile people in the area. I say we go in as a group."

Y 0: D 202: Doldrums 52: Smoke on the Horizon

Vittero looks over at Adi sideways,
"This is still about that girl I took out of the tavern a couple of weeks ago isn't it. I happen to like brown sugar."

He sticks out his tongue.

"We are far enough away at this point, I think we can split off and approach from both flanks."

GM: Once the topography allows for a more clear view, the crew can see that the smoke is coming from a slight rise a bit eastward of the parties original direction of travel. The rise appears to only be about 3/4 of the height of an average man, but still too much to pull up a horse. The whole ridge is mostly circular and about 7 paces across. There is a split in near end that looks like a single slice taken from a wheel of bread. If this is who took the horse, it will likely be in that split. The ridge makes for a good defensive location and also contains some trees for cover.

Maka is able to move close enough to see that the split in the ridge is empty, no horse, but he can hear several voices in a language that he does not recognize. As he is making his way back to the rest of the crew, who is lying down hidden in the grass, one of the ridges occupants comes into to view on the near side to relieve himself off the edge.

The single figure is a male Faethrin, tall and thin, with charcoal gray skin. Though none of the crew has ever seen one before, it is suspected that he is an Amiradthan, a tribe known to be psychotic.

Her? the dark skinned one? She's quite the looker, be careful though, she'll have you married and tied down like a pig in a stable yard if you let her. We can't go adventuring with just three of us.

Taylar shrugs as he replies, "I was feeling the ground to determine if there were any vibrations indicating that something was beneath us and attempting to burrow up and surprise us. I don't believe in 'good luck' rituals.
Adisakti nods "vibrations huh? I think i've felt something like that before, but I don't know if I would explain it in such a way."

Adisakit gives Taylar a feigned sour look, then joins him in laughter...rain washing away the smell...I'll have to remember that one.

Should one of us stay back in case we get into serious trouble? The person could act as a surprise attack catching them off guard, or if things go really bad he could run back to get help.

Maka will immediately attempt to hide, remaining still and quiet, and carefully observe the Amiradthan. Since he was the first to see the man, he signals to the other party members to do the same.

OOC: Without knowing it, Maka is trying to use Way to sense intent; to Maka, he is simply studying his opponent carefully.

Taylar will remain low and hidden, listening for any cry of alarm. His grip tightens on his baton as he anticipates fighting real opponents.

Raven Elk lying flat uses Way to pick apart the different voices and hear what they are saying to get a count of how many Amiradthan there are; and, if he can, he will try clairaudience to interject biting insults in the hopes of getting them to fight among themselves making it easier to attack them by surprise.

Y 0: D 202: Doldrums 52: Assessing the Rise

GM: Feeling no pressure for time, the crew begins to analyze their environment and possible enemy on a more proficient scope. The rise itself protrudes upward between 3/4 to the average height of a man. It looks out of place, at first, but it appears as if the entire area was once a smooth hill from which the light debris has fallen away to reveal the harder rock.

Looking at the grasses, it appears that these Amiradtha have been using this as a campsite for some time. Their main path for exiting and entering is through the single split in the otherwise definable circumference. Moving around, carefully concealed, the rise is larger than first estimated. It appears to be about 10 paces across (60') and about 32 or so paces around (~192'). There are 16 sizable trees covering the flat surface of the mesa. Three snares are also discovered in the grass, designed to catch rabbits and game birds.

The crew catches occasional glimpses of the Amiradtha, but not enough to get a definitive count. The estimate is 10 or 12, all young.

Amiradtha are tall Faethrins, averaging 7' tall and having thin builds. These are dressed rudimentarily and carry spears. There are males and females. From the sounds of things (No one understands a single word of Amiradtha.) there is some revelry to the group, to be only mid morning, and very little attention is being given to their surrounding.

Taylar silently signals for a huddle and says to the group, "I have an idea. I'll stand out in the open, with whoever wants to do it with me, and get their attention. If they want to talk, we'll talk, if not, then we'll womp em," he brandishes his baton for emphasis. "And if any of you want to hide and get a sneak attack in after they see me, then that's fine. It just didn't seem fair to not even give them an option."

Vittero cracks his knuckles and rolls his shoulders.
"I'm with you. I'm not much for skulking around in the grass. We should leave the horse grazing down the hill over there where he is. Since these folks seem to be mostly coming out from the split in the rise. I say we stand over there and wait on them."
