Day 203: Examining the Items

During the hours of his rest Taylar will handle the claw and tusk talismans, and the zinc ingot, testing them with Way to learn what he can from them. Turning the ingot over in his hand he decides to attempt to use it to find any more zinc in the area. On another whim Taylar decides to feel the corpses of the Nashurins to see if any of their pieces are Way sensitive.
Once Vittero can move and function, he would like to examine the items, also.
[sblock=Sense Way]Range: Essence + Adhesion
Effectiveness: Essence + Adhesion + Collegiate
This passive technique is used to determine if an item can augment the natural abilities of the possessor or if another being can manipulate way. This sensitivity provides no specifics. The result is as simple as yes or no.
Taylar: 14(eff) + 72(d100) = 86
Vittero: 16(eff) + 93(d100) = 109[/sblock]
GM: Frustratingly, Taylar feels that the items should have some significance but can sense nothing from them, except for the boar tusk since he already possesses a similar item. With a bit of luck Vittero, once he move, is able to sense a given proclivity of Way from all of them. Once identified as such, Taylar realizes that he too can tell and begins to concentrate on each item, one at a time. Vittero begins to examine them, as well, hoping to make more efficient use of the time.

[sblock=Identify Proclivity]Range: Touch

Time = 1 week * complexity / (Effectiveness + Luck)
This active Basic task is used to determine the specifics of an item that can augment the natural abilities of the possessor or bolster a particular manipulation.
Taylar: 30
Vittero: 34
Zinc Ingot: 1 week / (30 + 72)= 1 hour, 39 minutes
Nutria Claws: 1 week / (33 + 93) = 1 hour, 20 minutes[/sblock]
GM: After a bit more than an hour and a half, Taylar realizes that the Zinc Ingot will augment its possessors health. Vittero discovers the same result from the Nutria Claws. Since there is still considerable time needed for Vittero to fully heal, in fact it is in the crew's best interest to camp for the night and journey in the morning, Taylar takes the Zinc Ingot and begins to use it to see if he can find more of the ore.

[sblock=Mining]Effectiveness:

Maka picks up the songbird feather, and tries to connect with the spirit of the sky. He closes his eyes, and concentrates, meditating deeply and quietly, trying to connect with The Way.

OOC: Maka is Sensing Proclivity; despite the fact that the items have been identified already, Maka feels that a more personal, intimate examination of the feather is called for, especially since his people revere Birds above all other animals.

If no one claims it, Maka would like the feather.

Maka picks up the songbird feather, and tries to connect with the spirit of the sky. He closes his eyes, and concentrates, meditating deeply and quietly, trying to analyze the proclivity of the Way lines.
[sblock=Alchemy]Effectiveness:
  • Konokoro (Divination Task) +
  • Mind + Knowledge + Commercial
Time = 1 week * complexity / (Effectiveness + d100)
This active task is applied to the identification of various bones, feathers, and hair to determine any medicinal or mystical use. The result of the effectiveness of this task is determined by the rarity of the item as translated by the GM.
Maka: 14(konokoro) + 14(alchemy) = 28
Time: 1 week / (28 + 90) = 1 hour, 25 minutes[/sblock]
GM: Though he has been told of the feather talisman's particular proclivity, Maka feels that is important to determine this for himself. Tuning out the world around him, Maka drift through his subconscious until it is as if a message is carried to him on the wind. After almost an hour and a half of meditation, Maka can recognize for himself the items ability to augment his own sense of identity and outward interaction with others.

OOC: The remaining Songbird Feather Talisman has been added to Maka's character record.

Taylar agrees to make camp. He grins at his companions and says, "We should train at night too, like hide and seek in the dark. We might have to move at night sometimes."

When he has time Taylar will test the zinc's malleability. He plans to forge it into a link for a chain. He passes it around to the rest of the group and says, "You guys seriously can't feel this thing vibrate?"

Adi smiles, as he attempts to keep a pebble suspended in the air using push and pulling alternatively . Not taking his eyes off the pebble he responds to Taylar. I like that idea. I feel like we could use Way to help us walk silently.

Day 203: Taylar

When he has time Taylar will test the zinc's malleability. He plans to forge it into a link for a chain.
[sblock=Metallurgy]Effectiveness:
  • Konokoro (Divination Task) +
  • Mind + Knowledge + Commercial
Time = 1 week * complexity / (Effectiveness + d100)
This active task is applied to the identification of various metals and their strengths. It is also applied to the manufacture and identification of alloys. The result of the effectiveness of this task is determined by the rarity of the metal as translated by the GM.
Taylar: 14(konokoro) + 14(M) = 28 + 63(d100) = 91
Time: 1 week / 91 = 1 hour, 51 minutes[/sblock]
GM: After spending some time tapping the ingot on various things and rolling it back and forth in his hands, Taylar determines that the zinc is too brittle of a metal to make into a link by itself. He will need to combine it with a softer metal to make an alloy. He also comes to the conclusion during his study of the item, that were he to heat it to make an alloy, it would destroy its particular proclivity. In order for the ingot to maintain its particular vibration, it must remain intact.

Vittero takes the ingot and looks back at Taylar. "Can you hear that? This vibration you feel. I cannot feel it but it is making a humming sound. It has a very distinctive pitch. You cannot hear that?"

Day 203: Adisakti Enters the Fray

Adi smiles, as he attempts to keep a pebble suspended in the air using push and pulling alternatively . Not taking his eyes off the pebble he responds to Taylar. I like that idea. I feel like we could use Way to help us walk silently.
GM: Like trying to learn to juggle, Adisakti keeps losing control of the pebble, but he has a good feel for what he is doing. He figures if he keeps practicing, he will improve his control, Perhaps one day, he can move larger objects or maybe even himself.

OOC: Telekinesis requires 10 ranks in Collegiate and 10 ranks in Confluence, followed by 10 ranks in Aberrative and 10 ranks in Hemostasis, followed by, at least 1 rank in Machination.

GM: The crew determines that there are several methods to augment their skill in obscuring themselves from view. Having the gift of manipulating Way each person instinctively applies a passive technique to physically hiding. By actively concentrating, everyone finds tat they are able to slightly darken the area around them, further obscuring light.

OOC: Inversion:
Affect: Self
Effectiveness: Essence + Adhesion + Collegiate

This passive technique is used to augment various Obscurative Commercial Tasks. The specific use of this technique is listed under each Task to which it may be applied.

Darken:
Range: Touch
Effectiveness:
  • Essence + Adhesion +
  • Mind + Knowledge + Will +
  • Collegiate
This can dampen an area of illumination around the touched object, or one's own body, equal to a sphere with a radius of up to 1 stride. This cannot be used to generate an absence of light. It will only darken natural light by 1 category so that full sun can be made to appear shaded, shaded light to look like dust, dusk to full night. If used in an area that is already dark it will negate night vision. The duration of the darkness is equal to 1 minute per cumulative Will ability.

If I heard everything give off a hum I think I'd go insane. Remember the old man that lived in the cave by the river? Adi stoops over and pokes Taylar in the foot with his staff, then looks him in the eye and speaks in a gravely voice. Those damn squirrels stole my marbles, you haven't seen them have you? Adi, stands up straight chuckling. I feel the pulse of that metal, its different than the pulse given off by my staff which is different than the pulse given off by that oak tree. Adi points at a large oak a few paces away with his staff. Interestingly all of you have different pulses too. I bet if you though about it, you could tell us all apart just by our hum or the way we vibrate. That could come in handy if we have to go around sneaking in the dark.

Day 203: Vittero

Once he is able to move about, Vittero participates in hide-n-seek with the others, happy to take his mind from the grievous wound sustained by the Nashurin arrow. Once everyone tires of the instructive game and decides to take some rest, Vittero addresses the group for further plans.

"We have been able to collect one of the two stolen horses and know the fate of the other. We have eliminated those responsible for the murder of the man's family. I am thinking that we should go ahead and head straight back to town to conclude our agreed business. With this kind of success, we may be able to pick up another gig, or we could just pick a direction an explore something on our own.

We have never been to these mountains before, and this is a fairly definite path running parallel to the rise. There has to be something interesting to discover along this line in one direction or other.

What say you
?"
