TUW: The Outpost

Day 211: Entering The Outpost

Upon returning to town, the crew is greeted in a very friendly and welcoming manner by all the townsfolk they encounter. Many speak a few words to them and all give approving nods at the sight of two horses being led behind the party. It is late afternoon during a misting rain when the party strolls in. From the direction of town the crew is entering, the first establishment that is passed is the Hunting Lodge. Chass Verticort makes a beckoning wave to the crew then accompanies it with another gesture that means at your leisure.

Kangja Wankita (Raven Elk):
Richelle Fluorin is tending her own herb plot when Raven Elk returns home. He stands watching her diligence for a moment before getting her attention. She immediately jumps up and runs to give him a hug, flinging soil from her hands as she does. Richelle has always been a very affectionate person and working with the herbs as she does, she always has a pleasant smell. None of the crew ever minds being hugged by her.

She listens intently to Raven Elk's story and discusses details about the various beetles and plants like she were speaking to an equal. She conveys her pride of the crew's endeavor and encourages Raven Elk to seek further activity along this vein as it establishes a benevolent rapport.

Maka-Mani Heyah Kokipa, "Maka":
Maka is saddened to learn that his clan has recently departed on another hunting trip to provide food for the community. Rather than feel abandonment or discouragement, with the culture of his people, it means that Maka has now been considered a man of independent merit and his actions are now his own to pursue.

Vittero Luminet:
Plascimon Luminet merely nods and smiles as his son return from a successful venture. Unlike Vittero who seems to talk almost as much as Taylar, his father rarely speaks at all, even in his capacity as the local Priest of The Dawn. The fact that he had nothing to say speaks volumes to Vittero as even a man of few words his father was oft to convey a stern lecture to his normally miscreant behavior.

Taylar Nibscry:
Mallen Hammerstead gives a hardy laugh at his son's return, puts down his hammer, and moves away from the forge to greet him. He grabs Taylar's right wrist followed by his left in the particular Maldrog handshake among men. Mallen speaks to his son conveying his approval of this chosen direction of self identity and conveys that his forge will always be open to his son should he ever desire to take up the hammer.

Adisakti Stolichnaya:
When returning to the brewery and picking up a broom, Adi sees his younger brother diligently performing the tasks normally assigned to Adi. His brother greets him happily and gives surprising information that their parents said they were proud of Adi. His father being a meticulous brewer of the finest beers in the land, the man was often over strict and demanding. He affirms the younger boy's words and offers his support of Adisakti's pursuit in helping people in need, and says that his bed is open whenever he is in town.

OOC: State any desired business after returning to town. Town business includes what to do with party inventory, what trade is desired, what people should be engaged in conversation, etc.

DAY 212 to 213:

Raven Elk, after study with Ma on healing, and using Way to help with making the healing more effective, meets with his friends. When shown the stones and ingots, he is drawn to the Bloodstone and the Livestone with equal intensity, as if the combination of the two held some dramatically vast import to him.

Raven Elk checks on the proclivity these two stones may possess.

Upon learning that the other tribesmen have left, Maka is of mixed emotions; on the one hand, he is saddened that they left so suddenly, without waiting for him to return. On the other hand, having done this, the meaning behind such an action is one of respect and trust; the tribesmen consider Maka truly a man now, especially his father, and they have the confidence to leave him to his own devices, which means they have faith in his ability to take care of himself, and to do things on his own. This realization makes Maka proud.

DAY 212: Maka spends most of this day sitting atop a hill, just outside town, meditating, and trying to hear the voice of his Grandfather's spirit. He knows that his Grandfather is proud of him, too. When he comes back into town, late that afternoon, he mentions to the others that they should see the man who hired them before the sun sets, and let him know what happened.

DAY 213: Maka will talk to Mallen about the possibility of modifying his bow, so it can be used as both a bow, and (in close-quarters melee) as a bladed club, or (if adding blades isn't feasible) a spiked club. He will also examine the 6 stones that the party has acquired, trying to sense their proclivities.

DAY 214: Maka will spend the first part of the day practicing with his bow, trying to become a better marksman. He will then wander over to Taylar’s house, and ask him his opinion on finding someone to make them some better armor. He says that the tunics they are wearing are inadequate protection, as Vittero found out the hard way.

Days 212 - 213: Raven Elk

... Raven Elk checks on the proclivity these two stones may possess.
[sblock=Mineralogy]
Effectiveness:
  • Konokoro (Divination Task) +
  • Mind + Knowledge +
  • Commercial
Time = 1 week * complexity / (Effectiveness + d100)
This active task is applied to the identification of various stones and crystals. The result of the effectiveness of this task is determined by the rarity of the mineral as translated by the GM.
Raven Elk: 15(konokoro) + 14(mineralogy) = 29
Bloodstone: 1 week / (29 + 90(d100)) = 1 hour, 25 minutes
Livestone: 2 weeks / (29 + 62(d100)) = 3 hours, 42 minutes[/sblock]
GM: The Bloodstone, which is a dull grey stone with bright red flakes and streaks, is analyzed in just under an hour and a half. Raven Elk determines that, if carried, it will augment the health of the bearer. It serves no other function. The livestone, which is also grey but heavily streaked with green, requires almost 3 hours of study to analyze. Raven Elk determines that, if carried, it will augment the motility of the bearer. It serves no other function.

These stones will be added to Raven Elk's character record, unless specifically declined.

Raven Elk explains to the others what he has found out about the two stones that so caught his eye.

"If it's alright with you guys,
I'd like to hold onto these."

Taylar stays with Mallen a while, telling him about the journey, finding the bodies, the fights with insects, and the battle with the Nashurins. When telling of the combat he does not dwell on the excitement of violence, but the necessary actions of the honorable. He compliments each of his companions in turn, noting their excellent temperament and bravery. "I appreciate your support and love, Father," Taylar says with a big grin. "If I ever tire of pushing my limits, I will consider swinging a hammer again."

After spending some bonding time with Mallen, Taylar meets up with the group to seek out the man that hired them to avenge his family. Sheepishly Taylar turns to the others and says, "I forgot this guys name. Does anyone remember it?" To their employer Taylar will be honest when telling of the Nashurins demise.

After they settle that business Taylar says, "Shall we go see what Chass Verticort wants?"

Mallen listens to Maka desires. It is obvious that he is making mental images.
"I think I can do these things for you. You will need to provide me the iron or the coin to replace what I would use from the Kingdom's inventory."
OOC: Maka the character would remember this information even though it is difficult for the players when he is trying to remember at least 4 different games.

[sblock=Mineralogy]Effectiveness:
  • Konokoro (Divination Task) +
  • Mind + Knowledge +
  • Commercial
Time = 1 week * complexity / (Effectiveness + d100)
Maka: 14(konokoro) + 14(mineralogy) = 28
Sunstone: 1 / (28 + 73(d100)) = 1 hour, 40 minutes
Heartstone: 1 / (28 + 71(d100)) = 1 hour, 42 minutes
Nightstone: 4 / (28 + 43(d100)) = 9 hours, 29 minutes[/sblock]
GM: After just under 2 hours each, Maka determines that the Sunstone, which is mostly white with bright yellow flecks, can augment the outward charm of the bearer, and the Heartstone, which is a deep burgundy in color, will augment the function of the organ systems of the bearer. After 2 hours of meditations Maka can determine nothing about the Nightstone.

OOC: Maka currently has the Will to maintain 2 hours or less of meditation.

Maka already possesses items that augment both of these abilities. Having multiple items does not stack.

Day 212: Town Business, Taylar

... Sheepishly Taylar turns to the others and says, "I forgot this guys name. Does anyone remember it?"
Vittero cracks his knuckles and rubs his thumbs against the the first two fingers of each hand, indicating that he is thinking.
"I cannot remember the man's name, either. This is terrible, but I am sure I will recognize it if it is mentioned. Since he needed a place to stay while he was in town, let us speak with the Innkeeper."
GM: Marston, the Innkeeper greets the crew, but shakes his head and conveys that the man departed a few days back.

Kwargrow said:
... Taylar says, "Shall we go see what Chass Verticort wants?"
As the group is departing and headed for the Hunting Lodge, Vittero offers,
"If Master Verticort does not know but has other information for us, we should check with the two tavern keepers."

Chass Verticort greets the crew in a friendly manner. The Bajinin always bounces when he speaks, perhaps it is due to his shortness when compared to everyone else. Of course, no one in town would mistake his diminutive size as indicative of physical incompetence.
"Good to see you young adventurers back from a successful gig. I likely have nothing to tell you that is of any great revelation. Your hire has departed town several days back. He left with a caravan heading for Boga City. I did not speak with the man so I have nothing further for you. Also, I wanted to let you know that Maka's clan has departed on a hunting trip to acquire food for town. His father wanted me to tell you that he trusts the decision Maka made and is happy with the current endeavor of this crew. He in no way expects Maka to try to locate the clan and is welcome to continue helping people with his friends.

As far as I am concerned, with Maka's clan on the hunt, I do not foresee any shortage of meat, but I noticed that you returned to town with some chitin and at least one skin. I am interested in these items if you have no specific use. I do not have any rumors or concerns to relate to you
."

Adi spent most of his time on the trip home alternating between making his friends laugh with jokes and good natured ribbing and moping about all the work that was waiting for him. So while he noticed them collecting stones he didn't collect any of his own.

Adi is relieved to see his chores being handled. As he listens to his Da he thinks to himself, --" Da is treating me more like a man, maybe I should act more grown up."-- After his Da finishes speaking Adi look at him..."I won't let you down, I'll make the family name proud... Adi then seeks out Vittero, Taylar and Raven. He makes the same request all of them.

"Oi, can I see those stones and items you collected on our way home? I want to get a feel for how way manifests through them. How they feel when I am holding them and how they make way easier to use."

As much as possible Adi experiments and asks questions of Taylar, Vittero and Raven about the items they've collected concerning what they have discovered.

Adi then goes to see the blacksmith about adding a blade on one end of his staff, not like a spear but curled back against the wood, and a weight on the other end to balance it out. He inquired about the price and how much material he will need.

Having forgotten his resolution to act more grown up, Adi spends his alone time attempting to sneak up on the different farm animals around town and touch them with his staff. Using way to enhance his sneaking ability.

At one point he thought about trying to sneak up on the mean ram at farmer B's place but changes his mind, opting instead to harass the mousers hanging around the dairy and the granary.

Taylar frowns. "He hires us and then leaves without closing the deal? We risked our lives to avenge his family, and it wasn't about the money for me. We can talk with the tavern keepers if the rest of you want, but I am willing to consider this matter closed. I have no desire to go chasing after this 'Liam' if it is not important enough for him to stay. I am all for striking out on our own. We should be able to collect enough to keep ourselves fed and supplied."
