TUW: The Outpost

Taylar nods at Vittero. "Let us return to town. From there we can each decide what we want to do, but I will set out again with any or all of you. This is a large world and we have seen so little of it. With how our abilities are growing I pity anyone that makes enemies of us."

"Go back?" Adi says in disgust..."you know my Da doesn't do my chores for me while I'm gone? I'll have a week's worth waiting for me when I get back...but I suppose we must". Adi begins moping about the campsite, helping to pack up.

Day 204: The Return Trip

Day 204:
This day is uneventful, except for the late evening rain, which is fairly uncharacteristic for this time of year and offers a cooling effect from the heat of the day.

Day 205:
Hot and calm as the weather is expected, the crew slows a bit, not fully practiced at guiding horses. A hunting pod of red spiders is discovered at one point. They are similar in coloration to the beetles that were encountered some days back. The crew dispatches 4 of them without incident and is able to collect their fangs but not the venom glands.
OOC: New Collections: Spider Fangs (4 pair)

Day 206:
This day is uneventful, but once again a light rain falls in the evening.

Day 207:
It again rains in the evening and the crew kills 2 brown beetles, collecting the carapaces.
OOC: New Collections: Brown Beetle Elytra (2 pair)

Day 208:
This day is the typical hot and dry. The crew comes upon a herd of small sheep and is able to take one before the rest flee.
OOC: New Collections:
  • Mutton (50 bricks)
  • Sheep Hide (30% coverage)
Days 208 - 209:
These two days are hot and dry with no note worthy encounters.

Day 210:
There is a slight breeze that allows for the day to seem slightly cooler. Spooking up a covey of grouses, the crew is able to kill one for fresh meat for the evening meal. The tail feathers are kept because they looks interesting.
OOC: New Collections: Grouse Tail Feathers (15)

Day 211:
The crew returns to town during a light rain. With the oddity of the weather accompanying the crew's return, the more superstitious town folk consider it a good omen.

OOC: Make posts concerning any desired past activity over the previous 9 days before relaying intentions for having returned to town.

DAY 203:

Raven Elk agrees with Vittero:

"Yes, we haven't literally traveled too far from our homes; but, I think we as brothers have traveled a great distance. I think Vittero has the right of it. We need to go home assess our new abilities and what they mean to us on our own, then find a place where we can work together with Way, as a team, while we wait for new employ, or --- we brave out on our own."

DAY 204:

It felt good to be going home after a successful adventure/mission.

DAY 205:

Raven Elk sees that with every battle/encounter they all think more and more like a team --- much more so then when they played games together, for fun or competition.

DAY 206:

Spent meditating and "exercising"/investigating small uses of Way: Empathizing with animals (a chipmunk), Starting a fire (the only way they could get a campfire going in the drizzling rain), wishing he could see far distances (like an eagle), hear far distances (like a hunting cat), smelling intensity increase (stopped that immediately, realizing all of them needed to bathe in the nearest river. They had all gotten a bit "ripe").

DAY 207:

Taylar and Adisakti kill two brown beetles before anyone else could even get in a lick at them. The way they smiled at each other after the kills, the rest knew they manipulated Way to make their blows "telling".
Later, Raven Elk tries to use the Seeing far distances at night along with hearing to far distances at the same time (like an Owl.) This is how Raven Elk heard and saw the sheep they would kill later the next day, leading his friends to the herd, never realizing he dreamed the whole event.

DAY 208:

Sweltering day; and who, by the Great Father, ever knew sheep could run so damned fast!?! Only one killed out of a good 20+ animals. But, they were of the small, wild variety, NOT the plump, overfed domestic types --- so, just one more lesson for he and his friends. Once felled the sheep cause an overwhelming sense of deja vu. Realizing that he dreamed this the night before, momentarily, sends chills up Raven Elk's spine.

DAY 209:

Hard to meditate in this heat. Spent the day dreaming of rain.

DAY 210:

Maka is becoming quite amazing with his bow. The grouse was down before it had lifted itself more than a pace into the air. Though amongst the five of them, the morsels of fire-roasted, herbed grouse were very satisfying. Raven Elk would later ask for a grouse tail-feather and analyze its proclivity along with Vittero.
OOC: Waiting on GM response

DAY 211:

Raven Elk looks to the faces of the townsfolk as they enter The Outpost during a light rain. He sees the look of appreciation and good omen in their eyes, realizing that, in their small way, they have returned "the conquering heroes". How bringing justice to a distraught man's brother's memory would do that, he understood. From here on, Raven Elk felt that they would be called upon to right wrongs in their home district --- and, eventually, beyond.

It would be good to see Ma again and tell her of all their adventures --- and to study with her more, especially in the healing arts. He knew this would be extra helpful, especially when aided by Way.

Since they are already familiar with spider fangs, Taylar will lead the investigation to whether the grouse feathers can augment the manipulation of Way or favor a proclivity.

On the way back he will periodically search for more zinc.

OOC: Empathy:
Range: Self
Effectiveness:
  • Essence + Cohesion
  • Collegiate
This pre-Divination, passive technique is used to augment the outcome of various Commercial Tasks. It allows the Diviner to determine the overlying emotional motivation for the current or an intended action. For example, a person intending to attack may be motivated by greed, avarice, duty, fear, self-preservation, etc. The instinctual nature of animals generally gives the impression of hunger, fear, or self-preservation. This sensitivity is not limited to aggression and can be used in any situation. The specific use of this technique is listed under each Commercial Task to which it may be applied.
Hunting:
Effectiveness:
  • Empathy (Divination Task) +
  • Mind + Knowledge +
  • Commercial
This active task is applied to finding and identifying animals by their passage. The specificity of the information known is determined by the rarity of the animal.
Heat:
Range: Touch
Affect: Essence + Confluence
Effectiveness:

  • Essence + Confluence +
  • Mind + Knowledge + Will +
  • Collegiate
By actively manipulating Way, this causes the intended target to heat unnaturally, thereby causing harm (loss of Body). This can also be used to start a fire if applied to naturally flammable substances.
Enhance Vision:
This requires 10 ranks in Adhesion plus at least 1 rank in Invocation and 1 rank in Theologic before it can be attempted.
Enhanced Hearing:
This requires 10 ranks in Confluence plus at least 1 rank in Hemostasis and 1 rank in Aberrative before it can be attempted.
Enhanced Smell:
This requires 10 ranks in Cohesion plus at least 1 rank in Evocation and 1 rank in Academic before it can be attempted.

[sblock=Alchemy]Effectiveness:
  • Konokoro (Divination Task) +
  • Mind + Knowledge +
  • Commercial
Time = 1 week * complexity / (Effectiveness + d100)
This active task is applied to the identification of various bones, feathers, and hair to determine any medicinal or mystical use. The result of the effectiveness of this task is determined by the rarity of the mineral as translated by the GM.
Raven Elk: 14(konokoro) + 14(alchemy) = 28
Vittero: 16(konokoro) + 16(alchemy) = 32
Time: 1 week / (28 + 60) = 1 hour, 55 minutes
Time: 1 week / 32 + 51) = 2 hours, 2 minutes[/sblock]
OOC: Alchemy cannot be performed collectively.

GM: Raven Elk takes just under 2 hours time while Vittero requires just over in order to come to the same conclusion about the grouse feathers. When arranged in groups of 3 they offer augmentation to the efficiency of circulation and thought. Oddly, that is the same as the spider fangs. (Cohesion +1)

Days 204 - 211: Taylar

Since they are already familiar with spider fangs, Taylar will lead the investigation to whether the grouse feathers can augment the manipulation of Way or favor a proclivity.

Taylar: 14(konokoro) + 14(alchemy) = 28
Time: 1 week / (28 + 87) = 1 hour, 28 minutes[/sblock]
GM: In just under a n hour and a half, Taylar is able to come to the same conclusion concerning the grouse feathers as Raven Elk and Vittero do.

Kwargrow said:
On the way back (Taylar) will periodically search for more zinc.
Vittero likes this concept of paranormal mining that Taylar has discovered and he too participates, but instead of searching specifically for zinc, since Taylar is already doing that, he wonders if he may be able to sense some other minerals.
[sblock=Mining]Effectiveness:
  • Konokoro (Divination Task) +
  • Mind + Knowledge +
  • Commercial
This active task is applied to the search for usable metal or stone. The type of mineral detectable depends upon its rarity and the strength of Divination of the miner. The range of sensitivity depends upon the strength of Konokoro.
Taylar: 14(konokoro) + 14(mining) + 86(d100) = 114
Vittero: 16(konokoro) + 16(mining) + 71(d100) = 103
Taylar and Vittero can both sense tin, zinc, iron, bloodstone, sunstone, and heartstone without the aid of a conduit. Using a conduit, however, also extends the range of sensitivity by 1 category.[/sblock]
GM: The very next day of travel, Taylar discovers a significant deposit of zinc, which becomes an acute source of irritation, as without the benefit of mining tools, the ore cannot be retrieved from the rock. Though having some monetary value, the deposit is not large enough to warrant sending a mining crew back out.

The day before heading into town, Taylar discovers a rock containing 8 ingots worth of zinc. Each other day, Taylar is still able to discover an ingot providing a collection of 13 ingots in total.

During 8 of the 9 days' travel, Vittero is able to discover 1 bloodstone, 1 sunstone, 2 heartstones, 1 zinc ingot; and by complete luck, he also discovers 1 livestone, 1 nightstone, and 1 calcium ingot.

OOC: New Collections:
zinc ingots: 13 (Health +1)
calcium ingot: 1 (use unknown)
bloodstone: 1 (grey and red: use unknown)
sunstone: 1 (bright yellow: use unknown)
heartstone: 2 (burgundy: use unknown)
livestone: 1 (green: use unknown)
nightstone: 1(black: use unknown)

Adi goes home and tells his parents all about his travels. He intentionally leaves out the part about Vittero getting shot.

He tells about his newly developed abilities with way. They tell him how proud they are and how glad they are he is home safely. Then his Da hands him a broom and tells him to get his chores done.

While he is sweeping and cleaning he uses way to speed things a long.

Day 206 and onward:

When Maka notices Raven Elk trying to enhance his senses by using Way, Maka follows suit fom the opposite approach; Maka will practice, attempting to use Way to muffle the sound of his footsteps (move silent), draw the light away from his position (hide in shadows), and use bodily process acceleration (similar to how Way is used to heal wounds) to remove the impurities from his sweat (mask odor); if he makes any progress, he will inform his friends, and attempt to instuct them as to how he managed to achieve said results.

Day 206 - 211: Maka

When Maka notices Raven Elk trying to enhance his senses by using Way, Maka follows suit from the opposite approach. Maka will practice, attempting to manipulate Way to muffle the sound of his footsteps, draw the light away from his position, and... to remove the impurities from his sweat. If he makes any progress, he will inform his friends, and attempt to instruct them as to how he managed to achieve said results.
OOC: Inversion:
Affect: Self
Effectiveness:
  • Essence + Adhesion +
  • Collegiate
This passive technique is used, mostly, to augment various Obscurative Commercial Tasks. The specific use of this technique is listed under each Task to which it may be applied.
Darken:
Range: Touch
Effectiveness:
  • Essence + Adhesion +
  • Mind + Knowledge + Will +
  • Collegiate
This can dampen an area of illumination around the touched object or oneself, equal to a sphere with a radius of up to 1 stride. This cannot be used to generate an absence of light. It will only darken natural light by 1 category so that full sun can be made to appear shaded, shaded light to look like dust, dusk to full night. If used in an area that is already dark it will negate night vision. The duration of the darkness is equal to 1 minute per cumulative Will ability.
Mask Scent:
This will require 10 ranks in Cohesion and 10 ranks in Collegiate plus at least 1 rank in Evocation and 1 rank in Academic in order to perform this task.

GM: Maka finds that he is instinctively enhancing his ability to be stealth by the manipulation of Way. Having never tried the technique before, he finds it quite interesting that he can slightly darken the area immediately around him.
