TUW: The Outpost

Raven Elk wraps his left arm around Taylar's shoulder and says:"Capital plan. And I thirst for some mead. Surely this place has a mead hall or ale house. Let's find one."

And he leads Taylar down the street from Liam's place.

Days 224 - 241: Harvest Season

OOC: GM TIP:
I have added Basic Archetypes to the Character development thread: Basic Archetypes.

Despite the significance of the initial language barrier, the crew is quickly able to ascertain some beneficial information to their immediate plight and further their desired cause. As this is the peak of the harvest season, the crew hires on with one of the farms. The pay is meager, but instead of having to spend coin, the crew actually earns some, while being immersed in the language they are attempting to learn.

The crew spends their days in the field and their evenings within the city, sleeping in the bunk houses on the farm of their employment. The evening in the taverns are lively and enjoyable. The crew collects tidbits of information about several rumors. Many seem to be far-fetched tales that are intended to be entertaining, like the idea that some monster lives underneath the city that devours anyone who ventures down their for too long. The most promising stories involve rumors of Yahdram ruins, abandoned after the Sundering, that could still hold mountains of treasure. The place that seems the nearest is called the Keep of the Rising Sun, which is supposed to be in the center of The Spine, about a day north of the East Road.

GM: Each crew member earns the equivalent of 10 francs a day while harvesting. Meals and lodging are included with the fare, adding 800 francs to the crew's total coin value. The beetle carapaces and spider fangs were trading during this time, as well, earning 2 francs a pair for the elytra and 10 francs a pair for the fangs.

Taylar makes an attempt to be friendly and outgoing during their stay. At the tavern he will also tell stories about the Outpost and the groups adventures to encourage others to do the same, hoping to hear some interesting locations. The only one that sparks his interest is the Keep of the Rising Sun.

He says to the group, "A possible Yahdram site? That would be worth seeing even if it's empty, and there's bound to be some challenging things along the journey. What do the rest of you think? What will we need to make such a trip?"

Taylar suggests climbing equipment, heavier blankets if needed, food, some kind of writing utensils and paper to record interesting points of note on their path. He will inquire among the friendlier patrons of the tavern to see if anyone has experience in the Spine and if they have any useful information.

Adi pipes up..."Maybe we could talk to the one of the captains...maybe there are tasks around town we could get paid for doing that the guard isn't particularly fond of...like handling drunkards" a big smile crosses Adi's face..."maybe we could hire ourselves out to taverns and inns as security...if we make a name for ourselves we could be sell swords, like in the stories."

Taylar frowns at Adi. "I don't want to play around in some pacified city. I wanted to see Boga City and now I know it is not the place for me. This Rising Sun Keep is, and other places like it." He leans on his baton, looking like he wants to leave right now.

Maka says, “Now that we have a few francs saved up, we should see about getting our tunics repaired before setting out for this keep. Or perhaps even look at purchasing stronger coverings, or adding accessory pieces like bracers and greaves. If we’re serious about being adventurers, we should approach it seriously. Who knows WHO or WHAT awaits us in those ruins?”

Adi looks at Taylar dead in the eyes, and does his best to look defiant.... He thinks to himself, -- Da looks fierce when he is negotiating-- ." Who died and put you in charge, maybe I should be in charge." Adi leans on his staff, making it clear he isn't ready to leave.

Taylar leans back with a laugh. "In charge? I merely don't want my brothers to miss out on a grand adventure with me. I'm going to that keep, but if you wish to stay here, take your share of the earnings. I'll bring you back a Yahdram souvenir."

Taylar looks at Maka. "That is a good idea. We should see what the armorer here has."

Still staring at Taylar, still trying to have a staring competition...Adi let's a smile slip through his facade..."'Grand adventure,' you say?...Well I can't say no to that...besides, someone has to be around to be sure you don't get yourself killed."

Raven Elk listens to his friends absent-mindedly, he thinking about the results of his encounters with the local fauna, especially the birds he was able to entice to perch on his finger.

Learning to see, hear and sense as they do was an amazing and wondrous set of experiences.

When Raven Elk hears mention of repairs to their armor and maybe making additions to their protection, he perks his ears to the conversation.

"Whichever choice we make, stay or go, the repair of our armor, and maybe some additions would do us well for any future endeavors we have planned."
