TUW: The Outpost

Taylar and the Stones

Taylar says, "Before we wander off I want to get a good sketch of this area."

Taylar will take out his journal supplies and make as detailed a drawing as he can of the area where they emerged through the portal. He will mark the positions of the stones and scrutinize their rock faces to see if there are any carved details. If he finds any carvings he will record those and their position. He will walk from the stones to the nearest trees and mark how many paces it is.
GM: As this meticulous process takes Taylar approximately 2 hours, he is able to correctly orient himself and his work to the planetary positioning, and mark the northerly direction on the drawing.

Kwargrow said:
He will put his hands on the stones and (analyze) Way to see if they resonate with any particular (proclivity), as well as try to determine how deep the stones are set in the earth. He records this as well.
GM: Taylar is able to sense that the stones, individually, and the entirety of the structure are tuned, but he is unable to analyze anything more, paranormally. On a physical examination, writing has been carved into each standing stone and the flat rock. The writing is weather-worn and of an unknown script. The standing stones appear to be buried at half their total height, making them very large indeed.

Adi climbs the nearest tree with any height and takes a look in every direction.
GM: The towering pines are difficult to climb, and Adisakti is forced to fold a rope and throw it around the trunk, pulling back on it to hold himself to the tree. He then walks his feet up using the force of his hand to hold himself in position, He then relaxes and pulses the rope, pulling back on it quickly before he falls. He continues this arduous process until he reaches the first limbs, high above.

Scaling quickly through the branches, Adisakti finds that upper reaches of the trees sway in a synchronized rhythm with the constant breeze. From his vantage point some 10 paces or more above the ground, it appears that the coastline is not too far distant to the west. The trees do not appear to be thinning in any other direction.

After some time, Adisakti is also able to observe some animal activity in the canopy and on the ground. Varmints and birds move about the canopy, but it is most definitely larger animals about the forest floor, though they are secretive enough to remain unidentified.

No people or evidence of people can be seen, though two small hamlets are known to exist along the windy coast north of Thisidaboga.

Hating that he couldn't discover anything more about this room, or of this valley in general, and that the impulsiveness of his friends have nixed any further investigation of the place, Raven Elk reluctantly steps through the wall scene where he sees his lifelong mates standing in a somewhat familiar vale; but, not without first giving out a disgruntled:

"Hrrmm."

Adi climbs down and tells everyone what he saw, then makes suggestion. "We could head for the coast. Are not there several settlements nearby?"

"Coast? What coast?" Raven Elk asks as a means of announcing his arrival as he steps through the wall portal and onto the greensward amidst the standing stones and trees.

Adi - "I think that I saw the coastline to the west of us when I was up the tree. It should be just over the horizon."

Adi ... "We could head for the coast..."
Vittero nods, mostly to himself. "That is a sound plan. From there if we follow it south we should reach one of the fishing villages long before Thisidaboga."

"Coast? What coast?" Raven Elk asks...
"I think that I saw the coastline to the west of us..."
... Taylar nods and says, "Ok, let's go to the coast."
Vittero hollers, "Maka! Come on."

GM: If the coastline is just over the horizon, the group estimates that it will take a little over three hours at an easy pace. The trees sway in the constant breeze and the air occasionally feels cooler, as the season is changing. There are not as many songbirds in the pines as there are in other types of vegetation, but rodents within the canopy periodically make a noisy fuss.

After walking for about an hour in an approximate, westerly direction, the party gets the distinct impression that something is following them at an even pace, just out of sight, farther to the north.

As they all realize they may be being followed or tracked, Raven Elk nods to the others and drifts back from the group, gradually slanting northwards to get a closer look. All the while he is doing this, Raven Elk acts like he is foraging.
He does nod to Vittero and Maka to have their bows ready in case there should be an attack.
Before he does any of this, he asks Taylar and Adi to act like nothing is amiss and that they are basically just what they look like, five lads hiking to the coast.

Taylar will play along with the ruse, doing what he can to keep the attention of whatever is following them on himself. He starts singing a song in bass tone, "Bodies fill the fields I see, hungry heroes end. No one to play soldier now, no one to pretend. Running blind through killing fields, bred to kill them all. Victim of what said should be, a servant til I fall. Soldier boy, made of clay. Now an empty shell. Twenty one, only son, but he served us well. Bred to kill, not to care. Do just as we say. Finished here, greetings death. He's yours to take away."
