Two Handed Bludgeoning Reach weapon!?

While I am very fond of the Tetsubo (see nickname) I think the Meteor Hammer might be your best bet... I remember a Dark Sun weapon that might fit the bill but it's name escapes me. I also think Frostburn has a weapon call the... goad?

How about a chain that is not spiked?

Change the damage type to Bludgeoning and reduce the damage to 1d6/1d4 (for medium/small).

It's simple, and it fits into the Shadow Hand school nicely.

There was a Dragon magazine a while back that focused on polearms, maybe there was a Lucerne Hammer or something like that in there.

All neat ideas, but he specifically is looking for a quarterstaff weapon with Reach, like a polearm, so he cannot attack adjacent enemies (unless he takes feats that go around that). Nothing with hammers attached or maces or whatever. Just a really long staff, basically.

Can you not just take one of the weapons offered above and call it a long staff?

That's generally not how staves work though. Polearms really need the weight of the head at the end to give them their striking power. Without it, they just don't pack enough of a punch to be effective.

Like I said, use a Q-Staff and take the feat that lets you extend range by 5 feet.

You get around that by saying that the end of the staff is "Iron Shod".

Just use the Lucern stats and give it the option of being weilded as a double weapon.
Viola, a GreatStaff.
