The thread is about "unpopular geek media opinions," so I did just that.Yup, just like all new forms of art. Culture can only remain static from that perfect state they held when I was 11.

Indeed you did.The thread is about "unpopular geek media opinions," so I did just that.
Whats really fun is the roller coaster fandom. The folks that fall in love right away and the folks saying "meh" day one. At some point they flip and isnt that fun lol.A lot of geek culture criticism just comes off as tall poppy syndrome to me...
D&D 5E
Star Wars
Marvel
Game of Thrones
I'm not saying that these things are without fault. It's just that the amount of criticism they receive feels more a reflection of these properties being good rather than bad.
- Tom Holland is the worst of the three Spider-man actors. Sure, he best aligns with the comic books but he's oh-so annoying (Toby for the win).
- Dark Phoenix is underrated. It isn't great, and not nearly as good as First Class and Days of Future Past, but it is far better than The Last Stand, and probably better than Apocalypse (though that doesn't say much).
I think there's a lot of truth to that. I can critique something I love far more than I can something I hate because I will have engaged with the former far more deeply than the latter.I'm not saying that these things are without fault. It's just that the amount of criticism they receive feels more a reflection of these properties being good rather than bad.
But you didn't need to hurt me lolThe thread is about "unpopular geek media opinions," so I did just that.
You only think that you just want the same dozen D&D adventures updated and reprinted forever. The state of the art in adventure design advances rapidly, even in this century alone. The adventures that you are the most enthusiastic about, once you've played them, are almost always new adventures, rather than stuff originally knocked out in a week back in 1978.
I will now attempt to offset this negativity with a positive unpopular opinion: Starship Troopers is actually really good if you can get past the fact that it has practically nothing to do with the novel.
Ha. Rest assured, I wasn't saying that you are in cultural decline. But you didn't need to hurt me lol
I would dispute both of those points, however, I admittedly can't get past the fact that it has virtually nothing to do with the original (excellent) novel. How is that unpopular? Starship Troopers is not just a good movie, it's a great movie.
Moreover, it's a much better movie than the original source material is a good novel.
