Using D20 Modern for a Fantasy Game

Let me just chime in to say that Classically Modern (referenced by jaerdaph upthread) is quite possibly the best way to go about this. The advanced/prestige classes therein are excellent, and it's nice to see a new take on how to handle FX classes (though in my case, I just use Elements of Magic - Mythic Earth as it gives magic a much better Earthy feel than any system using spell levels). Best of all, Classically Modern is free.

I might also suggest making a few changes to the Wealth system (link to PDF).

Just tangentially, I've seen several posts on this board that stated that using Mutants & Masterminds was pretty good for FRP games, so I can't imagine that D20 modern would be too terrible.

As for "Computer Use"...I'd use that as the skill for adjudicating the use of things like the various architectural observatories/calandars, like Stonehenge etc. That is, their mundane uses like reading the seasons, making weather predictions, and so forth. If the site is also used to draw magical power, I think Spellcraft would still be the relevant skill, possibly getting synergy points from "Computer Use."

I would think there is to much overlapping here in regards to other skills (Computer Use, KNowledge (physical sciences, arcane lore, earth and life sciences) and Spellcraft), so I would really ditch it for a D20 Modern Fantasy game.
But it might be fun to explore a fantasy setting that would still be able to use that, though such a setting might be a bit to steampunky for some people.

Um, no. That still would fall under Knowledge skill.

What is Computer Use but a specialized form of knowledge? Yes, its given a seperate name, but really, its no different from any other KS.

We're talking about a distinction without a difference.

Besides, such structures are the closest things to computers in that tech level (besides the abacus).

Knowledge (Technology) represents book learning. Craft (electrical) and Repair represent actual hands-on talent. In much the same way, one could study technology in a classroom, but that doesn't make them competent at high-security hacking.
