Using Gestalt?

Do you allow the use of other base classes besides core?

Yeah-- I really think you have to, to maintain enough PC variety.

Aside from Core + XPH classes (I ban Paladin and Psychic Warrior), I also allow Artificer, Noble (from Dragonlance), Shugenja, Scout, Favored Soul, Warmage, and Hexblade. I'm thinking about taking Warlock live again, and possibly putting Paladin back into play, and I'm looking forward to getting ahold of Magic of Incarnum.

Spellthief?! Huh personally I'd gestalt with Warmage myself...But the Psion/Psw/Cleric isn't that bad of an idea. Maybe when the next installment of Mind's Eye comes on line Ashy, you might want to change to *insert name of Gem Dragon's God* as your patron. I always liked him.

Sardior? That's a good idea! I had forgotten about him.
What's the next Mind's Eye suppose to have in it? When is it due?

Kory,

Uhm I was asking that other guy...*points to Gwaihir* But thanks for your input! ;)

Ashy,

No idea. It's been...over a week I'm reasonable sure, if not more so. But yeah Sardior was who I was thinking of. He's pretty much convertable since most deities and their portofolios were left relatively unchanged in 3.5. But according the posting, it was supposed to have more insights into Sardior and other stuff about psionics and divinities...At least I believe so.

Sorry my bad! It's more about weapons of legacy and a legacy item tied to Sardior. Here's the link.

Two questions: Would it be hard to go back to standard PCs or would you feel powerless?

How would a standard module stack up against gestalts?

My current campaign we went back to standard classes for a refresher, and so far it hasn't been much of a problem. Actually, the simplicity of leveling up only one class at a time is a breath of fresh air! *GRIN*

A gestalt level 3/3 character is around level 4-5 as a regular character, depending on what the challenge of the encounter is all about. So either run characters through the module a level early, or add in a few more opponents to the module's encounters. I would recommend adding creatures if possible over leveling them up because a) it's quicker, and b) I've found that it's easier to tweak encounter difficulty that way. If you've got some time left over, I suggest picking one or two of the module's major NPC opponents and gestalting them as well. Nothing says "bend over" quite like a pair of gestalt barbarian/rogues... (Why let the players have ALL the fun?)

Cheers,
Vurt

I have a question for you guys. How do you all feel about the scout class in general as well as if it wer, combined with, say... the monk?

In other news, I just learned a friend of mine is joining us for a session. He'll be a gestalt as well, thus making it 5 PCs, and only one non-gestalt PC (me.) Barbarian/Scout. Overall I'm less worried about this since ranged sniping is something we could use more of.

Enamal,

Eh it wouldn't be that much different in my view than combining a monk with say a ranger or a rogue. In my mind, it's viable but probably NOT as good as other combos that work better for scout (IE barbarian, ranger, warmage) or for monk (cleric and paladin.)
