Using polymorph for a huge boost in AC

About the Ex abilities: They have also been errata'd. Lots of errata flying about.

Abilities such as rend are no longer considered Ex abilities. They are considered natural abilities. For obvious reasons, they are not going to errata every other monster in the Monster Manual.

That psychic warrior: Hold Monster. End of Encounter.

The psychic warrior must be 10th-level+ to manifest Polymorph Self. By that level, 10th-level wizard enemies are not uncalled for. And Hold Monster has a better save DC. (I just love using save-or-die powers.)

In a social-heavy game, that might be enough to deter folks.

In a Social-Heavy game the problem never arises in the first place as there is no need to transform into a Combat form.

Might as well penalize the fighter for smelling like sweat, rust, blood, oil and iron.

So true. After getting tired of dominating our psi-warrior back over to our team after he'd been dominated by bad guys, our seer (the psi-warrior's boss) invested in some helm that blocks dominations and also gives +4 to Will saves. He presented it to the psi-warrior last night and exclaimed "Here! Wear this, you fool." :D

In my campaign the solution is very simple. If a fighter wants to turn into a troll, that's fine but his equipment does not get to go along for the ride.

This is a House Rule and completely contradicts whats in the poly other spell. Trolls use equipemnt so it does go along for the ride.

Okay, make it a social-present game -- a game in which PCs have an existence outside of the dungeon.

A fighter is supposed to smell like sweat and iron -- I think the locals won't be surprised by that.

A fighter with green skins and disproportionate limbs, OTOH, is gonna look mighty like a demon to a lot of folks.

That's what I'm getting at.

The classic storybook restriction is that if you spend too much time in another form, you may forget yourself and be lost to that form (e.g. Earthsea books).

That's also how it (Poly Other) used to work in AD&D, and since it'd most reasonably be a WILL save, it'd be a good way of 'nerfing' it as a buff spell to be cast on fighters and the like...

Time to break out the Web spell :D! It sounds like the psychic warrior is a kick-butt melee warrior, but a simple Negate Psionics, targeted on him, takes down his buffs. Until 16th-level, that is; then a psychic warrior with a Con of 16 can manifest Ablating.
