D&D 5E Using the Lucky feat

The OP's wording of "thwarted by players" tells me that he has issues of greater importance to deal with than a single feat.

Hello, I'm a first time poster, but have played D&D since 1975. I pose a simple DM question regarding the Lucky feat. Does using a Lucky point counter a natural 20? As a DM, I have been thwarted more times than I can care to count by this. Any thoughts?

Excellent point. As a DM I'll often take a faux-oppositional reaction when a player makes a well-chosen action or an excellent roll to avoid a bad outcome in a key fight. It's not because I want to foster a me-vs-them environment but because players like the extra validation of their action foiling the intent of their opponent and they shine all the more brightly because of my displayed frustration (always played with exaggeration and a substantial dose of humor).
 

I know players who select Lucky on every one of their PCs when they get a chance. I like the Feat as I like mechanics that allow rerolls, but am selective on characters I assign it to. So far only one of my PCs (out of around 10 active ones) has it.

it can be tempting to take on all characters. I've learned to ask myself "is being "lucky" intrinsic to how I want to roleplay this character?" Sometimes the answer is yes.
 

I think the Lucky feat is kind of bland, honestly, compared to all of the other more interesting choices out there. So I give it to all of the characters for free.

Well, sort of.

If a player brings enough snacks to share with everyone, they get 1 Luck Point to use at any time during the gaming session. If they bring enough beverages to share with everyone, they get 1 more. And if they are the brave soul who has agreed to host the gaming session in their own home, often at great inconvenience to their wives and children, that player can get 1 Luck Point more.

These points don't regenerate after a long rest, though. They last for as long as the gaming session does, or until used. At the end of the gaming session, any unused Luck Points are converted to bonus XP. I know that the "per long rest" part of the Lucky feat is the reason everyone thinks this feat is the Bee's Knees, but getting it as a reward for good sportsmanship seems like a fair trade in my gaming group.
