Van Helsing taking a beating

Well the movie is, at least. ;)

This isn't a good movie and people don't like it. Whoever told you that the screen audiences were mainly positive lied to you, straight-out lied. There wasn't a single person at the screening I went to who like this movie. I'm not exaggerating. The biggest laugh came at the supposedly emotional finally that had all the subtly of a sledgehammer. The point at which the audience cheered the loudest during the movie was when someone in the back shouted 'THIS MOVIE SUCKS NUTS!" That's a word for word quote too.

This is just an awful, awful movie

Not surprised that AICN has its knives out for Steven Sommers. They strike as very much like the British music press -- all too eager to declare a new hero, and all too eager to strike back at those who succeed.

As far as I'm concerned, aside from Moriarity, every other reviewer on that site might as well be writing in hieroglyphics for all the impact they have on my expectations one way or the other.

I do think the movie looks like good goofy fun. I could be wrong, but I'm sure not going to let AICN sway me one way or the other.

Well, I'm going to see it because I think it looks like a good romp. And I take issue with the statement that he hasn't made good movie since X-Men. I liked his roll as Leopold Alexis Elijah Walker Gareth Thomas Mountbatten in Kate & Leopold (so maybe it can be considered a 'chick flick'...I liked it).

I never go to that web site ... ever. I can never understand why the entertainment news media sometimes consult with him, other than to let their credibilities slide in mine own eyes.

I'm just going to look at Van Helsing as a comic-book superhero adaptation to the silver screen.

It should be noted that most AICN reviewers could be classified as the most pessimistic and impossible-to-please people on the planet. If a movie falls even slightly short of the typical AICN reviewer's expectations, they'll slam it like it was one of the worst movie ever made and act like it has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. It also dosen't help that Harry Knowles raves about movies like Charlie's Angels 2. Moriarty is the only AICN reviewer whose opinions I actually give credence to.

As for Van Helsing; I'll probably go see it. It looks like a fun popcorn flick with good special effects and lots of action.
