D&D 5E Volo's 5e vs Tasha's 5e where do you see 5e heading?

If it were a popular idea I think it would have been revealed in the extensive polling and surveys they do. I'd be surprised if they didn't also pay close attention to what's selling on DmsGuild. Heck, if you think people want it so much, start a thread and set up a poll. The fact that very few people seem to agree with you should be at least somewhat indicative.
They didn't put any of this in their polling.
The 2nd highest Gear book on DMGuild is the Weapon and Armor addition and variant. It's 3rd for the entire site.

The idea that few wants this variants are false.
There is also, the issue that, an optional set rules, @Minigiant wants amounts to splitting the market. It would be a case of Wizards creating something that completes with its own product. A big marketing No,no
It's not splitting the market. It's offering options.
It's like how every burger places is offerng a chicken sandwich and many offer a plant-based burger.

Possible.
It might be that it's too late for WOTC to do many variants because fans have what they want from the saturated market.
Good enough for WotC purposes. If DMsGuild products can fulfill a niche, no need for WotC to expend resources. I'm sure if there was any indication on their end that the niche needed feeling, such options would use made it into Xanathar's or Tasha's.

Bold to assume that its mostly dmsguild not other companies filling the niche with ogl compliant forks.

The work cited was DMsGuild. I'm sure there are some niche products out there servicing that sort of thing, but WotC still doesn't seem to be in a hurry to worry about it. Fundamentally, WotC doesn't care if a niche audience gets served by OGL producers, that's why they made the OGL: to allow niche audiences to get served while still playing D&D.

dmsguild pretty much hands over rights to wotc, the kind of rules changes being discussed tend to avoid it like the plague for obvious reasons. Your posts have a very 2008 ring to them on this subject though. My quick google search for the title @Minigiant mentioned came up with an electrum, & adamantine product in the first couple results. You won't see things like darker dungeons, anime5, levelup, aime5e, darker dungeons & so on listed on dmsguild for that reason..

Also don't forget the 70% rule that has supposedly been abandoned recently. a mere 31% could veto something 69% wanted until recently & we've yet to see any products that were mostly made after the change.

I'm pretty sure that WOTC would have loved to collect all the money from some DMGuild products over just royalties and is just settling on what they are getting now because it's too late.

Some of the stuff on DMGuild isn't as niche in appeal as many say. WOTC just missed the boat. As someone who works in corporate sales, corporations for many different factors and reasons do not always do what makes them money. Just because WOTC didn't do something doesn't mean it was a bad idea to do it. It could be or it could not. Profitable ventures get scrapped for the dumbest reasons sometimes.

The old rule was 90%, 70% satisfaction I the current lower standard. Just because a minority might like something, doesn't mean the entire 30% want something. For rules that do fall into that 70-30 split, such as using Feats, we do see WotC provide support. I see no reason reason to believe that AotC is leaving a significant market on the table, that cannot be supported by DMsGuild or OGL products.

Based on what we know for book sale goals (100,000+ is their goal for each book, minimum), and what we know of DMsGyild sales (they ain't that high for even best sellers), ther ROI to fill DMsGuild gaps might be there. We have seen instances where WotC has superceded DMsGuild material (such as the new Ravenloft book), and I am sure if they see a market they will make a move.
