W1: Blacklily Violence (Completed!) [Rae Judging]

Saithnar's eyes narrow suspiciously as he looks from the wizard to the pointy hat. "Someone, search his hat there but keep it well away from him while you do. If they find nothing there Riffer, then I will tell YOU the deal. You will tell us where the necklace is, AND what we would face in getting to that location, as well as anything else that would be prudent of you to inform us about. If we are satisfied that you have told us the truth, THEN you shall stay out of our way after we let you out of our grasp."

OOC: Notice I did not say we would let him GO. I fully intend on trying to find a city guardsman to turn him over to if we can. Otherwise we could try a Spiderman and leave him tied up real pretty to a lamppost in a better part of town where the guards should get him before his gang friends do... :)

Solange walks over to Riffer and leans on her crook. She smiles at him and says "Riffer's yer name? Well, Riffer, if ya know were tha necklace is, then ya best be tellin' us ya know? Ya be findin' tha guards more forgivin' when it ain't a noble who be payin' um to find y'all, ya know?"

Edit: Forgot to roll this. Solange's Diplomacy Check. (1d20+5=23)

"The Blacklilies' relationship with Vanon is more complicated than I thought," says Conuld softly. "Riffer is afraid of him, but the thief whom Solange and Cludge fought... what was it he said... 'Riffer is more boss than the Arimae whelp.' There are factions within the gang." He turns back to the dazed mage. "Riffer, we will want you to answer a few more questions. How well you reply will determine in what manner you gain your release. Just ask the priest of Zephos, shepherd of the dead, here. But for now, we are going to take a little walk." Conuld makes sure he picks up an extra case of crossbow bolts. "Let us not stay here," he says to the others. "We can look for a boathouse or an unguarded warehouse where we can" - he taps Riffer's foot with his own - "focus on our friend Riffer here."

"perhap we can question him in das rooms abuf?" asks pendrake.

he then walks over to an already dead blacklily, checks for a pulse, mumbles about it still being alive and then slits the throat with cold emotion. "We take all these to harbor...i will deal with the rest of life ones."

Conuld watches the effect of Pendrake's bluff on Riffer with apparent grim amusement. At least, he hopes it is a bluff. "Not this building," he says. "I do not want to be interrupted while Riffer talks. On your feet, mage."

Cludge Slatefist

Cludge slowly and menancingly draws his greatsword. Hey eyes Riffer with his best cold-hard-killer stare.
Might as well finish up quick with this one, lads, he says. He don't know much and I'm hankerin' for an execution. Justice must be done here.

As he looms over Riffer, it's obvious he's no cold-blooded killer.

A quick search of the hat reveals it to be nothing more than an ordinary, felt hat. It seems a bit over-sized, with a ridiculously wide brim and a conical top. In effect, it is the type of hat that wizards are stereotyped into wearing.

The "Good Cop, Bad Cop" routine doesn't seem to work too well on Riffer; or, at least, the "bad cop" side of things fails terribly. He is completely unfazed by any attempt at coercion, until finally, Cludge's attempt at intimidation causes him to grin just a little bit.

"You can stop with trying to scare the hell out of me... it might take a while, and we've both got better uses of our time. You should have kept Carson alive... he was much better at this sort of thing. You could have learned something from him. Although, slitting the throat of one of my boys was pretty good; Trust me, I get the point."

Riffer pauses for a moment, and licks his lips. "Fact is, you killed him, you killed Carson, and you can just as easily kill me. So, sure, I'll talk. But I want your WORD that I walk free, not some playing around with words."

He turns, and speaks to Solange, who seems to have made the best impression upon him. "As for Vannon... he's mad that I robbed his house. But, how was I supposed to know that he was an Arimae? He's terrified his secret is going to come out. I figure, let it... he's a bastard anyways. Wouldn't sell that damned necklace... I have no way to get rid of the thing, and it's already cost me all of my men! You want it, you can have it."

"You are lying," says Conuld. "Carson knew he was an Arimae. You did too. You did not learn it only today. As for walking free, I certainly did not promise you that. I promised you release." Conuld gathers Riffer's filthy hair in one hand and pulls the man's head back, exposing his throat. "Do you want release, friend?" The dagger in his other hand flashes forward, but he only cuts away the fall of hair. He drops it over Riffer's lap. "You offend me, Riffer. You are a disruption. You pollute." He poises the dagger. "Is there anything else you can spare, do you think?" There is no hint in Conuld's demeanour that he is bluffing, for he is not.

OOC: Wik, were any of my rolls in this post helpful? I don't think we got an answer on that yet.

Tommy speaks up, "Well, I won't claim to speak for my fellows, but I would be willing to let you go free once we have the Arimae necklace in hand. Not before, mind you. I expect that if we release you, you will flee from Orussus as far and as fast as your means will take you, and never return. I think you know that your power here is broken for good. Your rivals and enemies, of which I'm sure you have many, will not remain ignorant of your condition for long, for one thing. The guardsmen you have bought will not stay bought, now that the Blacklilies are broken. For another, I expect that Cassus Arimae will place a bounty on your head as soon as we recount our investigations to him. I cannot imagine that he will require that you be returned to him in one piece. Finally, what do you suppose will be the first thing we do after recovering the Arimae necklace and freeing you? We will naturally find a guardsman -- a trustworthy one, mind you, not one of your hirelings -- and tell him everything. No," Tommy concludes with a satisfied smile, "I feel confident that if we set you free we will never see your face again. Isn't that right?"

Whoops! Sorry, forgot about that post.

Yeah, there are actually four scrolls, but looking at your modifier, I'll assume you ID all but the first. They're scrolls of Disguise Self, Alarm, and Hold Portal. As for the wand, it's a wand of Magic Missiles... obviously well-used (7 charges remaining, 1st level). The Activation word, confuses Tommy for a moment... it's written in a draconic script, but doesn't translate into any Draconic phrase at all - in fact, it's a nonsense word in draconic. However, a moment later, Tommy figures it out - it's Draconic phonetics, used to pronounce a word in Common - "Lily". It's a lot like someone using Cyrillic to write a word in English.

Riffer returns Conuld's cold stare. "I found out he was an Arimae last night, when he started yelling at me. I assume Carson found out too, although maybe not. You could ask him, if you'd like." He looks over at Carson's corpse.

"If you want to slit my throat, do it. Go ahead. You speak of pollution, well take some upon yourself." listening to Tommy, he nods. "You'd do well to listen to your friend. I lead you to the necklace, you let me go, and I flee. Fallon, maybe. Because he's right... the Blacklilies are dead."
