W2: The Search For Tomas Quinn (Rae Judging)

Pendrake looks over someone's sholder to view the broken weapon, "ein vepon of das little peoples, perhaps?" he shrugs his stooped sholders, being careful not to poke anyone with his drawn weapon or burn anyone with the lit torch.

Cepheus drops the material over the orb with no problem. The room darkens just a little bit, being lit now only by the torch in Pendrake's hands and the sputtering lantern.

The arrowhead seems crudely made, with the tip made out of rough iron, as opposed to the steel that is usually seen. It is only a little less than the first half of the weapon; the second half remains to be seen.

Pendrake stands guard at the indicated corridor. His human eyesight is strained at the meager limits of the torchlight, but he tries to keep a vigilant watch, none-the-less.

Both Aiken and Cepheus sneak down the corridor, dead silent. The only sound they hear is that of water dripping in the distance. For a moment, Cepheus thinks Aiken was hearing things, but then he catches it too - a whimper, almost completely muffled.

Cepheus is able to see further than Aiken, and he sees that the passage goes on for a further thirty feet before widening up into another room, bunkbeds lining the walls and ragged blankets lining the floor. But that's not what catches his eye. Several children, bound and gagged, wearing ragged clothes and with eyes widened in terror, are huddled in the centre of the room, with a small band of vicious goblins wearing spiked leather standing watch.

And they stare right back at Cepheus.

"Gnome! We've been spotted!" one of the goblins barks out loudly.

"ATTACK!" a second shouts.

The four goblins surge towards the two sneaks.

Meanwhile, in the main room, Pendrake and Solange hear the goblin's shout, and it is answered by blood-curdling shrieks from the north and south passages, each cry echoing off the walls, amplified by the tight spaces. And to the south, Solange catches the howl of a feral dog, and the sound of a chain breaking.

Hukk looks around nervously. "Wha... what... what's going on?" he cries, raising his arms in an aggressive stance. "are we about to get attacked!?"

OOC: Yeah, Hukk, you're about to get attacked. Roll initiative.

[sblock]Not really an apology, but a heads-up: I changed this encounter a little bit, to accomodate some neat little tactics & critters I found in a recent read. I don't think it'll effect the difficulty of the encounter (if anything, it'll make it easier)[/sblock]

Aiken is cought unaware by the goblins and is somewhat indecisive Initiative (1d20+2=5)

He readies his rapier.

"forward or back?" he asks Cepheus.

OOC I'll be gone this weekend probably wont be on-line till late night Sunday or Monday morning. I'll be on tomorrow morning.

"Hukk, stay behind me," Solange says as she raises and aims her crossbow at any incoming goblin. She'll step forward towards the corridor and grab the scroll of Bless, and will read it.

OOC: Solange's Initiative (1d20+1=14), then Bless getting as much of the party as possable.

I think back. We dont help the children if we die. We need to explain the situation to the others also.

initiative=10

Cepheus will back down the corridor toward the other room and his companions.
