This is why I have not pre-ordered my 3.5 books. I am paranoid about pre-orders of anything, from anyone.
To me, the main reason to pre-order would be to get the product as soon as possible. If your reason is to save money, as at least one poster above has said, then maybe pre-ordering and taking this risk suits you.
I will purchase my 3.5 books from a FLGS, but I can't claim that it is for the many reasons already debated here. Instead, I just want to hold the books in my hot little hands at the same time I am handing someone my money.
Of course, the same would apply to waiting a couple of weeks and ordering them from someone who has them in stock. I don't mind doing this, if it is from someone I trust (EN World/RGPShop, Talon, and maybe Amazon, to name a few). I am just deathly afraid of pre-ordering.
