D&D 5E Wand of MM confusion

the wand of Magic Missile property loses me as it stands right now. Am I the only one?

As a single action, you can expend up to 3 charges to cast magic missile from the wand, one casting for each charge.

three castings of the spell would mean 9 missiles in one shot, 21 missiles in the wand. that surely can not be what they mean, can it? For my playtest, I am inclined to switch out 'casting' for 'missile', thus reducing the wand to 7 missiles or 2,3 castings oft the 1st level version.

thoughts? Suggestions? (apart from reporting this in the survey, obviously)

Hmm, that's how I had read it, but I hadn't connected that with the default for magic missile being 3 missiles.

Yeah, I'd guess you have the intention, though.
