The warlock is a "spellcasting" character that works on spell-like abilities. He's even more specialized/focused than the sorcerer, but there's basically no limit to the number of times per day he can do his thing. (Basically, we have a notion here in R&D that your character is going to get 10-20 actions per day, so your 21st, 22nd, etc., spell memorized just doesn't matter very much for combat power. The warlock doesn't really have infinite spells compared to the wizard because they both get the same number of actions per day of adventuring.) Oh, and the warlock just oozes spawn-of-the-dark-powers flavor. It's a lot of fun.

The problem with the notion that you only get 10-20 actions per day is on those days when you're doing nothing else (i.e., not adventuring) and you can literally cast every single spell at your disposal. That could be very, very dangerous if the warlock can literally use his SLAs an unlimited number of times per day.

Joshua-

Why is that a problem? I am just curious what you are thinking. Do you mean for game balance in item creation, for example?

Imagine what someone with no limit/ day could do with Wall of Stone, or how much of a forest they could burn down with unlimited Fireballs, or even Burning Hands. How many Rays of Frost would it take to freeze the water in the pipes of the castle, causing them to burst? If there were no limit to the number of Teleports you could cast, what would the effect be?

For some players and groups there IS an aspect of this game outside of combat rounds, and I think the focus on miniatures is causing the designers to forget that.
