I was wondering, at 20th level would the Warlock get 3 blast attacks. I could not find the info concerning if it is a full round action or not.

Thanks

No, eldritch blast, as with all invocations, require a full-round action to use. This is to prevent the warlock from becoming overpowered since there is no limit to the number of eldritch blasts they can perform in a single day.

Complete Arcane specifically states that all invocations are standard actions. (Page 7, invocations, 2nd paragraph, 1st sentence.)

I don't wanna wait for Thursday. :p

That, mind you, is when I should get Complete Mage. It's about time the warlock finally got a bit more lovin' instead of being the red-headed stepchild of arcanist classes.

*gets off the soapbox*

I personally, however, don't see what's so unbalancing about eldritch blast being used more than once a round, at least once you reach level 20 and get into epic play. Mostly I say that because the warlock can't possibly hope to compete (especially at epic-level play) with a wizard for pure blaster archetype, let alone the Improved Spell Capacity, Multispell, Innate Spell, and other such fun things that could conceivably make a wizard a better warlock than the warlock himself.

I figure I can say that, given that I did try making an epic warlock for a campaign. At best, I was gonna do 14d6 once a round (twice if I burn a feat selection for Quicken SLA, and then only 3 times). By comparison, the wizard has more than a few spells that are at least 20d6 damage if not better -- non-epic spells, at that. That would explain why I went with an epic wizard (albeit with some swashbuckler and fighter mixed in for melee backup).

All that aside, I can't wait to see what goodies Complete Mage has for the warlock. I know there's the Enlightened Spirit PrC meant for them, but I wanna see the new invocations, too.

One way to let the warlock do more blasts is to allow him to control the level of his eldrich blast.

For example, no warlock can take Quicken SLA for his blast. The feat requires a spell level -4 from the highest you can cast. Eldritch blasts are always half your warlock level, so they are always too high to use. However, if you could voluntarily lower the effect to get the quicken off that would be effective.

Actually the errata to Complete Arcane states that the eldritch blast is always a level one effect, probably for the ability to use it with Quicken SLA. I guess the counterbalance is that it is no longer as effective at overcoming SR.

Um, but penetrating SR is based on caster level, not level of the effect. So that ruling makes no change to spell penetration rolls.

Or, rather, completely ineffective against a Lesser Globe of Invulnerability, unless you use an Essence or Shape to raise the effective level.
