WB's The Batman

That 'Oz-Meister' thing was kind of lame. ;)

I'm not ready to fully indict the show quite yet, though. I know I do not love it with the same zest as the Animated Series and I think my reasoning comes down to this: for as hip as they have tried to make it, it is 'hip' in the sense that a 12 year old's skateboard and his skater friends are hip: not really.

The Animated Series was so great because somehow it appealed to adults and children. I doubt that many adults will like The Batman.

And The Batman is supposed to cover Batman's 3rd year under the cowl. So Bruce Wayne is nearing his 30s (28-29)!

If a "hip" Batman was so clamored for, why not just make a Nightwing series set in Blüdhaven? That way you have Teen Titans for the kids, Nightwing for the mid-teens and JLU for the teen-to-adult range.

And the JLA is more popular than the Teen Titans...

And Superman is more popular than Static Shock...

Plus we already had a "hip" Batman before. Only, his name was Terry McGuiness. ;)

(and Nightwing gets them chicks by the truckload! :) :) :) )

I've seen two episodes - the first one and the one introducing the penguin.

Unfortunetly, the show is just aimed at too young an audience to have any appeal to me. As if it is relying soley on the flashy colors and brand loyalty to keep its audience more so than the character development and writing.

And that episode introducing the penguin... is it just me, or did the whole backstory for Alfred's grandfather being a butler to the cobblepots just seem like a stretch to get alfred more involved? (whether it's true to the original story or not, I don't know.. just, the way it was presented here, it just felt blantantly obvious that they were trying to keep Alfred as involved as possible)...

As an aside, given that I know next to nothing about Nighwing, I would have enjoyed a show about him.. but, at the same time, given what I DO know about him, I would imagine it'd be too much of the same personality as Batman Beyond (Terry M.).

But... these are all just my opinions. I'll have to talk with my little cousins sometime and see what they think of the show as they fit more into the target audience...

Alfred's dad served as butler for the Waynes. Alfred started working for them after his father died, upholding the Pennyworths' loyalty to the Waynes, about the time Bruce was born.

A cool thing about a Nightwing series would be to focus on how Bludhaven is much worse than Gotham, and could follow Dick as he becomes a police officer to clean up BHPD from inside.

Which is why both are on, AFAIK. But Teen Titans relate to the younger audience rather than grown-up adult heroes.

Which Superman: The Animated Series had its own run before Static Shock series. Static again relates to the younger audience.

Hip, yes. But still under the wing of the original.

Aside from imports like Pokemon & Power Rangers, as well as earlier animated series produced in the 90's, most Saturday cartoon series these days run for two seasons at the most. I was disappointed that WB's X-Men: Evolution didn't last as long as FOX's X-Men series.

Out of curiosity, do you also dislike Teen Titans? It's aimed at an even younger demographic.

And I really don't see how anyone can complain about a lack of character development after only watching 2 of the 3 episodes that have aired thus far. Did the first 2 episodes of Batman: the Animated Series overflow with character background and development?

I enjoy The Batman. I also enjoyed X-Men: Evolution, and they're not much different -- taking an established group of characters and giving them a new twist, and -- so -- far it seems to be working well.
