WB's The Batman

Well, I haven't seen a full episode of The Batman (so I can't fully judge), but the first episode of B:tAS was the one that introduced Man-Bat ("Leather Wings", iirc).

Nope, that was the 2nd ep. First ep, "The Cat and the Claw," intro'd Catwoman & Red Claw (who was only in all of 4 episodes).

Well, my bad. :)

"Leather Wings" was the first episode aired down here, and everyone went geekastic at the attention to details and animation (Bruce's look while listening to the Langstrom's story, Batman and ManBat flying past a zeppelin, Man-Bat's general appearance). Very strong openers, these two!

The first episode that I'm familar with was the one that introduced Man-Bat... I know that the Cat and the Claw wasn't the first episode by any stretch.

As for this newest show, I'm of two minds of the matter. On one hand, I like the animation and I like the generally grim mood. On the other hand, the liberties taken go too far abreast of the characters (similar to, although not as grotesque as, the 60s live action show). Batman himself is pretty on, but most of the villains are too far gone from their roots. Bane is only superficially like the comic character; the comic character is far more cerebral and crafty and doesn't run around tearing up the city. The Joker is close persona-wise, but the whole visual design stinks. Also, aside from Alfred, the majority of the supporting cast has been completely gutted.

I'll continue watching the show since I don't think it's bad. I do think that they need to lean closer to the comics though.

The show seemed ok. I actually liked the more crazy like Joker, a welcome change on the more tradtional purple suited clown. Here he seemed a bit more crazy, dangerous.

However, the show doesnt really do all that much for me. Granted seeing a Batman thats still growing into his persona and isnt totally trusted by the authorities is a different look, but it seems that this is an attempt to grab the Spiderman movie audience/crowd. eh.

Im mean do we need another Batman show? Batman Beyond was a favorite of mine, a cool twist on the mythos- and it got cancelled.

Presumably the WB has access to the DC Universe, and given the entire pantheon of heroes available, we get another Batman show? Personally Id like to see a Green Lantern show, featuring the whole corps. But thats just me.

"The Cat and the Claw" was the 1st ep ever aired, though it was the 13th ep produced. "On Leather Wings" first aired one day after that, though it was indeed the first one produced.

The first 2 eps on the season 1 DVD set are "On Leather Wings" and "Christmas with the Joker" (the 38th one aired, but the 2nd one produced).

So, in a way, we're both right ;)
