D&D 5E We need more Int/Str/Cha saving throws

I'd go for

Str - spells that seek to physically restrain the target (breaking/escaping a resilient sphere, evard's black tentacles, web, perhaps certain wall spells)
Dex - spells that can be avoided via quick reaction (AoE such as fireball and lightning bolt)
Con - spells that attack the body (Disintegrate, Cause Disease, Polymorph)
Wis - spells overcome by keeping a cool head or "grip on reality" - fear, insanity (this would make clerics good vs. fear, falling back on their faith in a deity)
Int - illusions
Cha - charms and domination

I completely agree with this list.

Really best way for for Next is to give options on saves (Wis or Cha), (Str or Dex) ...etc otherwise it will become a balance excercise doomed for failure. Its easy to flavor adjust ...

For my personal taste that would be the worst way... you'll inevitably get characters who dump some stats because they can manage everything with other ability scores.

That's probably the best arrangement idea so far...

Perhaps I would forcefully change some Dex-ST spells to Con-ST (or something else) when the spell's specific effect makes it reasonable to do so*, just because otherwise almost all damaging area spells are going to have Dex-ST and Dex might be dominating the ST framework.

*for instance Thunder damage doesn't sound like something you can really dodge :)

I have to agree. Having seen it in 4e, I think it's a worse solution than using all 6. I think the only way to use 3 stats for saves is if they are just for defense and the other 3 stats are just for offense.

I'd rename Wisdom as Intuition and get rid of the Willpower part of it, which should go to Charisma. But it's not going to happen, as renaming the stats is way beyond the scope of 5th edition, because it wouldn't look like D&D.

Just carry willpower over to Charisma without renaming anything, and it still looks like D&D.

I think you could make any area effect spells that aren't instantaneous (Ice Storm, Firestorm) use a Con-ST, with instantaneous ones using Dex-ST. You could argue either way for both though, to be honest.

Yes they are definitely arguable/debatable... I wouldn't like to change spells that have always worked a certain way (Fireball, just to name the most iconic) with regard to ST. It's just that Dex is the most represented ability in ST, while others are under-represented (tho Con isn't in a bad position at all).

This makes a lot of logical sense but I reckon it would be way too fiddly in play. Either some version of the 4th ed way or the proposal of 13th age would be better in play.
