Weapon finesse for a monk ?

I've seen nothing in the PH, the feat says only "light weapon". Are the monk's hand a light weapon (I remember something about it, and I think the answer is yes), and is that weapon eligible for the feat ?

It isn't under the finesse description, but you will find it under the Monk class description if my memory is correct

Unfortunetly, not in the french version
I bought the english version first, and the french one later, giving the english version to a friend of mine. Bad idea !
But my master has the english version, i'll check it.

Thanks all.

You can also check it in the SRD, BTW. :)

If you're looking at increasing your attack rating, consider the feat Intuitive Attack from the Book of Exalted Deeds (If your DM is allowing the book). For the modest price of a base attack bonus of +1 and being good alignment, you add your wisdom bonus, which should be pretty high for a monk, instead of your strength bonus to your attack rolls with unarmed strikes and simple weapons.

Have a care young monk...Once you start down the dex path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will.
Is the dex side stronger?
No, no, no. Quicker, easier, more seductive. ;)

Also, if you have the Tome of Battle: Book of Nine Swords, you could take the Martial Study feat at some point (3rd-level or later) to gain the Shadow Blade Technique, which is a maneuver that you would be able to use once per battle. It's helpful for improving your chances of scoring a hit.

But more importantly, it would allow you to take the Martial Stance feat afterward, to learn Child of Shadow or Island of Blades, and then after that you could take the Shadow Blade feat. That feat lets you apply Dexterity to damage with certain weapons (including unarmed strikes) while using a Shadow Hand stance (such as Child of Shadow or Island of Blades).

If you took Martial Study at 6th-level or later, you could instead gain Cloak of Deception (turns you invisible until the end of your turn when you use it), then take Martial Stance at 9th-level or later for Assassin's Stance (gives you 2d6 Sneak Attack, like a rogue), then take Shadow Blade at 12th-level or later.

Also, Tome of Battle has a few more useful feats for monks, like Snap Kick and Superior Unarmed Strike.

Weapon Finesse (unarmed strike) would directly improve:
Disarm checks (they use opposed attack rolls)
Sunder checks (they also use opposed attack rolls)

It would increase your chance of hitting with the touch attack needed to start a trip or grapple attempt, but wouldn't give you any bonuses to your trip and grapple checks.

You can not take Weapon Finesse for grapple.

Yeah, and don't forget that Disarming/Sundering with a light weapon nets you a -4 penalty...

Dex also helps resist Trip and increases your Escape Artist skill, which will be your only way of getting out of a grapple alive.

This thread was from 2002. That's 6 years ago. Why has it been necroed?

So, I was wondering : could a monk take the weapon finesse feat choosing his hands as the weapon ?

Yes, a monk and anyone can apply Weapon Finesse feat to unarmed strike.

In 3.0e, you can choose Weapon Finesse (Unarmed Strike) feat.

In 3.5e, you can apply Weapon Finesse feat to unarmed strike because it is considered a light weapon.
