Well that didn't take long, wizard has been shelved.

Right, they suck get over it. Check.:erm:

My experience is that strikers are the ones that suck. Maybe it's cause I'm rolling well and the two strikers in the party are rolling badly, but I just haven't seen them inflicting that much more damage than the defenders. Also, it might be because we've only had one solo fight, and in that fight, everyone sucked (we all lost initiative to the dragon...)

I do think that wizards have some issues hittin' people. At best you're swinging a +4 to hit with your spells at 1st level. Granted, it's vs. other defenses, but still.

Something to remember about wizards: even if you do 5 damage to four opponents, that's still doing 20 damage in one attack.

Proficiency is an imaginary bonus vs. AC--mathematically speaking and experience-wise, I have no reason to believe that wizards have trouble hitting. Since AC is almost always 2-3 higher than other defenses, the +2-3 from proficiency is zero sum. Proficiency only makes a difference when you use a weapon attack against another defense.

Rechan - you have to hit those 4 guys to do that 20 damage.

Darkdolphia - I am not convinced that AC is always 2-3 points higher than the other defenses. I think it would like to be.
Edit- just went through the MM and commonly some of the REF FORT and WILLs are actually higher than the AC. Think on that one. REF is commonly equal to the monsters AC and FORT is commonly higher than the creatures AC.

Yeah, but you have to roll minimum damage to do only 20.

AC is always at least 2-3 points lower than at least one other defense. It's not always lower than every other defense -- Brutes can have Fortitude higher than AC, for example. (So don't target Fort on a Brute.)

Again, this just means you need to be able to target more than one. Reflex is strong for Artillery and Skirmishers, so don't target that when facing them. Use Reflex against Brutes, Controllers and Soldiers.

AC isn't always 2-3 points higher than Fortitude, and it isn't always 2-3 points higher than Reflex, but it's almost always 2-3 points higher than at least one of them. (Leaving Will aside for the moment since wizards need a Dragon article to target Will without expending an encounter or daily.)

Maybe you don't like it--personally, I'm fine with the refocusing. Wizards can't do everything anymore, but they retain the role that was unique from other classes. Personally, I was a little sick of every party being the wizard's bodyguards (even if Wizard was one of my favorite classes).

cant do everything anymore = can barely do anything. :erm:
