We're Not in Kansas Any More

"A Knife......." thinks Frank. He remembers that he has a pocket knife in his front pant pocket. Frank reaches into his pocket and pulls out his knife. He will then try and cut his way out of the net if possible.

Releasing the net Hari reaches up to grab the trailing rope which attaches it to the ship and yanks it down hard. The rope should either go slack allowing the net to be handled more easily or it will stay firm and pull him up out of the sand-mire.

"Oh God" he thinks to himself "let us get out of this soon!"

"Keep pulling, they're losing their grip."

Dustin shouts as he sees the insect people pulled up against the rail. Perhaps if they can get the net loose, they can all . . . swim . . . for safety. He puts his words to actions as he attempts to yank the tow rope free from the ship.

Isaac still cannot believe this is happening. I try to keep a firm grip on the netting as we are all dragged up the ship.

"This isnt looking great guys, we need to come up with a plan here really quick like, in case we can't get him cut loose.."

Attack!, Round 2-3

OOC: I overestimated my recuperative powers!

Within the net, Frank works a knife out of his pocket, opens the blade -- almost dropping the knife! -- and then starts to saw on the net's strands. The fibers are tough, and working around the hooks while being jostled about isn't easy, but Frank manages to cut through a few strands, enough to get his arm out of the net.

Meanwhile Bryan and Isaac hold tight to the net, now having to kick their feet in order to tread, of all impossible things, sand. There is more bouyancy to the "liquid" sand than water, but not quite enough to keep anyone afloat in the tossing waves without some effort. From back near the cave entrance April yells about anchors. Hari and Dustin abandon the net, swimming a few strokes to grab the trailing tow rope. With a couple of hard yanks, they are pleased to see their efforts rewarded. One of the "bugs" cries out -- a horrible, shrill buzzing sound -- and tumbles overboard into the surf.

The ship passes by, gradually slowing. Suddenly the tow rope goes tight as the ship's movement picks up the slack. All five men are dragged along, first sinking a bit and then bouncing to the surface. The net comes perilously close to the side of the ship, but Bryan and Isaac kick out with their feet, pushing themselves and Frank away from the hull.

The men can hear the alien sounds of the "bugs" shouting. Looking up, they see six of the creatures lean over the port rail, aiming what appear to be shoulder-mounted spear guns. The tips of the projectiles protruding from the weapons crackle like the electrical arc of a hand taser. April, from her higher vantage point, sees a large rowboat being swung out on a boom. Several more "bugs" scurry about, getting ready to lower the craft while other of their kind, all bearing weapons that look sort of like tridents, leap into the boat.

OOC - Initiative: "Bugs" (19), Frank (17), Bryan (14), April (10), Hari (9), Dustin (8), Isaac (6), the ship (1). Ya'll can roll your own dice for actions if you want. The "bugs" have taken all of their actions for the new round.

Frank continues to try and cut his way out of the net with his pocket knife. Though he is having a tough time of it as he is dragged and bounced along.

When the bugmen pull out the spears April moves a little deeper into the rocks and takes cover. She calls out loudly and points in the direction of the row boat Hey! They're lowering a smaller boat!

Dustin continues hanging on to the rope and net, trying to make sure that Frank can't be hauled upwards, even if they do get dragged along forwards.

At April's warning, Dustin glances back in her direction.

"Have a look for rocks, sticks, anything we can fend them off with if we can get Frank free!"

Despite the small victory of pulling one of the bugs over Hari can help the feeling that they are (almost literally) in over their heads and Aprils warning about the boat only serves to heighten the panic that is building in him.

He glances back towards April trying to work out how long it might take to get back to the cave, then he looks up along the rope and for a fleeting moment considers climbing it up onto the Ships deck.

"Pull Frank out now" he yells out instead whilst still holding tight to the rope "we got to get out've here now!"
