What alignment is Cobra Commander - the Official Word

Mighty-morphin-G.I.-Rangers!!!

Ugh, no kidding. You know what I wish? WotC gets the ok from Hasbro to do G.I. Joes miniature skirmish game. I would exhaust my plasti-crack funds on that.

Would have been nice, too, seeing how I modeled the design of my ultimate baddie in my current campaign, Rathamon, after Serpentor.

he he he does he say things like "Thisss I command" or does he just have magic snake/javalins???

I did a variant on the thiss I command, but he did have the snake javelins and the big hooded cobra helmet.

Ironically, the players didn't catch the homage' until after the session. They loved that guy, though.

Gary Gygax had connection with the Marvel Productions team (the people who did the animation) via the Dungeons and Dragons entertainment company (and of course the cartoon they did).

I'm not sure how well he knew them all, although I think Buzz Dixon was a friend. Flint Dille also had connections there.

Hrm. I'd've thought that the comic book version was LE all the way, what with all the infiltration and use of society's structures against it. But the cartoon, definitely agree CE.
I don't know - in the comics he decided he was going to leave his life of crime behind to take care of his ailing son, and then Fred VII shot him, and then when he came back he was all like "awww yeah, Cobra Commander's back, baby!"

Seems pretty chaotic to me. But then again, that was just one incident and I can see your point. Maybe Neutral Evil is better for the comics?

He's the classic madman in the cartoon, so CE is right there.

That, my friend, is a stroke of genius.

"COBRA COMMANDER is CHAOTIC EVIL doing the job of a Lawful Evil Character. He's scary because he's completely mad.

DESTRO is Lawful Evil and very bright. Think of Darth Vader. He is infinitely more logical than C.C. Destro is scary because he knows exactly what he's doing and why."

Unfortunately for this explanation, Darth Vader is Chaotic Evil.

A chaotic evil character does whatever his greed, hatred, and lust for destruction drive him to do. He is hot-tempered, vicious, arbitrarily violent, and unpredictable. If he is simply out for whatever he can get, he is ruthless and brutal. If he is committed to the spread of evil and chaos, he is even worse. Thankfully, his plans are haphazard, and any groups he joins or forms are poorly organized. Typically, chaotic evil people can be made to work together only by force, and their leader lasts only as long as he can thwart attempts to topple or assassinate him.

Here is a thread on the Wizards boards about a GI Joe minis game, from 2007. In post #7 Chris Pramas says:

"I was the lead designer of a G.I. Joe minis game at WotC about 6 years ago. The whole project was only underway for a few months. I started design and we did a bit of focus testing. Then the idea went before the company's higher ups. It was decided that the game wasn't worth pursuing because it didn't have a current TV show. I think it was a real missed opportunity."

Can't help but agree with him. Maybe they've been secretly developing a game to coincide with the release of the movie? We can dream...
