What are people doing with their 3.x colletions?

What am I doing with my 3e collection? Nothing. They’re staying right there next to the 1e and 2e hardbacks. Just added a second-hand 3.5e UA to them. (My only 3.5 book—except for the Mongoose Pocket PHB.)

Besides the fact that there are still plans in my group for at least one 3.5 campaign, I keep all my RPG stuff. Even if I’m not playing a game, I can still steal from it and be inspired by it. A lot of them do get played, though.

The only RPG books I didn’t keep? The 3.0e splats.

I am thinking of selling my 3.x crunch books, but keeping setting and adventures. I can always use them, but most of the crunchy stuff I can get rid of.

My wife would be happy, she is always talking about selling my library.

I'm not switching to 4E, but if I was, I'd still keep my 3.x collection.

Every time in the past that I've gotten rid of "obsolete" gaming stuff, I've regretted it later. Every time. So I've finally learned that lesson.

When/if we switch to 4E once the Midwood/Freeport campaign wraps up, I will be giving all the stuff I don't want to keep for fluff reasons (like Ptolus and Redhurst, for instance) to the local library.

If you want the hobby to grow, don't make it require a $100 purchase for new players to get a test run.
What makes me mad is when I donate books to the library, they don't put them on the shelves; the library holds onto them and then sell them for profit.

Keeping it. I don't get caught up in the splat book mania. My collection of 3e is mainly limited to good fluff companions and excellent modules (which is pretty much limited to a handful). I have all of my 1st edition books and modules, along with my 2e modules. There's no reason I can't convert the fluff. I've converted AD&D to Heroes, nWoD, and GURPS. It's pretty simple to hold on to really good stuff when I know I can use it again with a new generation of gamers.

Keeping them since some of my friends want to keep playing 3.X/Pathfinder.

If I ever manage to get them to switch, I'd sell all the books on Ebay minus the Eberron/Realms books, which I'd keep for the fluff.

Sell it to me.

I'm looking for highly discounted copies of Monster Manuals IV and V, Dungeonscape and Stormwrack.

The prices I've seen on Ebay are still more than I want to pay, but I have yet to give up hope that I can get deep discounts on them from someone who wants to move away from 3.5.
Although I have MM4 and Stormwrack, I'm keeping them.

My group's playing and loving 4e right now, but that doesn't mean I'll never play in or run a 3e game again. Besides, those books are really, really well-done overall.

(Except for that one... what was it again? Book of Exalted something or other... ;))

Also, I still plan on running some Arcana Evolved at some point, and maybe some Black Company. You never know what may be useful!

I've been buying third edition books since the 4E press release at GenCon last year.

I' haven't stopped, but I am getting picky. It would be nice to have a 'complete' collection, but it just seems financially un feasible considering the Pathfinder product line. I am a homebrewer and almost never use anything as written. Maybe eventually when prices start to plummet on the stuff thats expensive now (Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil, which eventually I'd love to run with the Pathfinder rules).

I love the modularity of third edition and the ease of modification and creation of races, sperlls, magic items and other whatnot. There are very few 4E books I want (PHB, PHB 2, MM, DMG, AV, MP, FRCS, FRPG), but when I do get them I will be finished with it and will move on to getting more OGL compliant material.
