I didn't realize there were so many corner cases. I'm thinking this information could come in handy for other people besides me. If I compiled them into a list, is there a good place to post it where people would be able to locate it easily as a reference tool? (I haven't been very active here for the last few years, so I haven't kept up with all the latest changes to the site.)
Could you explain what you mean by "alternate HPs"?
(Just to be clear, I'm not looking for suggestions on what the ability scores *could* be used for -- like setting the DC for opposed checks -- unless it's mentioned in the official rules somewhere, like the autosuccess variant rule in the DMG. Likewise, discussions of things like half-feats or optimizing your point-buy just muddy the waters when explaining the game to new players. Not trying to squelch anybody's input, I just want to make sure you understand what it is I'm asking for.)

They are a placeholder for half point bonuses and alternate HPs.
