I will be playing a bard soon, and in the homebrew world of our DM I think bards just tell stories or sing short limericks with no musical instruments. It will be interesting to be in a fight with a bard that reads poetry and chants more like a gregorian priest than a bard. Can't wait to try it though, and I already have a bunch of lyrics pulled together from various tunes and famous speeches to see if the other players recognize them, with the homebrew world details inserted.
"...and I imagine Jehna restored to her real beauty in my dreams; stately trees seem to brush the deep blue sky as clouds billow to form majestic peaks, the songs of birds fill the air to create symphony upon symphony, as if Avasara is calling for an honoring of what she allows to be created through the core mystery of her powers. Like a shining, priceless jewel buried in dark layers of soil and stone beside the Darya River, Jehna radiates her brilliant beauty among the Sind Killer Mountains. It is a vision that inspires me to live and love on Aryana!... Or something like that. Charge!!!"
