What Do You Appreciate From your Player (s)??

Valicor

First Post
As the other side of the coin to Falchon's What Do You Appreciate From Your DM(s), I introduce the DM's who apprciate Players thread.

1. Thank you players for showign up at games, so that I could run one.

2. Making characters & taking part in the events of the world.

3. Giving me somethign to do with my spare time

4. Adding to a healthy atmosphere of friends hanging out.

There is many other things that can be added to the list, to many for any one DM alone to answer.

taking DM abuse- so that he can advance the plot

Bossing the character around as he sees fit

Playing along

and not telling what *REALLY* happens when the DM takes you to the next room...;)

All those things!

Also:

Checking your e-mail and responding in a timely fashion.

Making the times you commit to playing as important as other appointments and plans (i.e. you don't agree to play on the 16th and then at the last minute change your plans even if "something better" comes along).

Playing fair and not cheating so I don't even have to wonder.

Helping me with the rules when I'm not right; and allowing me to wing it when neither of us knows.

Taking turns doing things for the game and for the group (being "initiative captain" -- wow does that work great; making the pizzas; etc.)

Bringing food!

Letting other players into the spotlight now and then.

Putting thought and effort into the game (even if it's just in keeping your character sheet accurate!) between sessions.

Knowing the rules.

Having PC names.

Not acting like total morons at least once a session.

No Simese Twin Pimps in Greek Alexandria (This is more of a problem than you might think)

As I suspected.... DMs in general do not concider the player important.

I'm not so sure about that, DM's know that with out players there is not a game. and Unhappy players = change in managment. A DM is only as strogn as the players allow him to be, and i'm sure all DM's realise this.

Actually, players will put up with a lot of bad DMing in my experience, usually without comment.

The first sign a DM may have that his DMing sucks is that players begin to not show up for sessions.

I would agree with everything EricNoah said, and I don't think either of us mean it in a "player bashing" manner. I greatly appreciate and respect players who treat me with appreciation and respect - by being prompt, honest, respecting my property (when we game at my house), contributing to the game, etc.

I appreciate players for being a part of my dream and my creation. But how much better is that appreciation and happiness when the people in question are being 'good people' to you? Much, much better, thank you.

I appreciate my players for:

1.) Playing along with me and acting in character

2.) Helping to move the game along and create a rich story

3.) Providing good comedy (in a fun way) as they try to fight together without killing each other

4.) Telling me, after an evening in which I felt I couldn't think straight and my performance really sucked: "Hey, thanks, I had a great time tonight."

5.) Constantly trying to push the envelope of what I'll allow in my game

6.) Just being great people who are great fun to be with

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to add...

7.) Not complaining (too much) when a CR10 modified hydra (the 9 heads had the Wounding property, along with disease and some minor fire resistance) kills two of their 6th level characters and almost wipes out the party as they try to escape through a 200 lb iron grate. That was good drama. :)
