What do you use Chat GPT for?

if i hit a block, I tend to use what i had before the block as a pompt and ask "what happens next" and go from there
That’s a good approach for creative writing. I was referencing technical writing - as in what are some example approaches to solving a technical problem in the industry.

I am officially diagnosed with high functioning autism. Sometimes I have difficulty expressing in a language other people can easily understand. It is usually people with low and no neurodiveristy who are not as well read as I am and have smaller vocabularies, who require a much smaller word count.
When necessary I will use chatGPT to re-write my text along with a prompt ‘re-write this text, make it easier for low Iq people to understand’ and amazingly it helps a lot with that. Here is an example:

I have been officially diagnosed with high-functioning autism. Sometimes, I find it hard to explain things in a way that others can easily understand. This is especially true for people who aren’t neurodiverse, don’t read as much as I do, or have a smaller vocabulary. They often need simpler words and shorter explanations.

I'm a software engineer. I find ChatGPT or Perplexity AI or similar a huge step up on Google searches. If I don't recall the finer details of e.g. configuring an AWS SNS topic policy or want an overview of a barely familiar topic e.g. using CQRS in a DDD architecture, a quick search phrase and I've been served. Much quicker and less painful than sifting through a few dozen Google search results, most of which turn out to be barely relevant, trying to stitch together an understanding.

I’m sure you are aware that autism is a spectrum and what you are describing is extremely atypical. Most people with ASD have a smaller than typical vocabulary; about a third have extremely limited or no functional language.

My son has autism and I teach a wide range of neurodiverse students. Typically, when I have students who struggle to communicate despite a large vocabulary, it’s because their syntax is very complicated, not because others don’t understand their words or have a low IQ. Chat GPT can be useful, though it typically rewrites to an extent that is not acceptable per our academic integrity rules.

Assuming neurotypical people are just dumb is and interesting take.

Reynard, that's your take on my specific words. What I said is closer to my intention than to how you read it.

This is an illustration of the problem autistic people have with communication.

What I said it this:
Sometimes, I find it hard to explain things in a way that others can easily understand ... is especially true for people who
1 aren’t neurodiverse, (is that an insult to neurotypicals?)
2 don’t read as much as I do, (is that an insult to neurotypicals?)
3 or have a smaller vocabulary. (is that an insult to neurotypicals?)

Look at each of those individually and assess if each case specific example is an insult to neurotypicals or if it is an autistic person relaying their communications experiences.

What I did not say, is the use of the word 'dumb'.
I did not say "neurotypical people are just dumb" - you said that and put those words in my mouth.

Clint_L, I specified I am high functioning. This does not mean high functioning compared with autistic people. It means high functioning compared with neurotypical people.
Text is my main form of communication, to compensate verbal disabilities.

I use AI for my job. It's helps me with my admin bandwidth as a solo freelancer/contractor in the marketing and branding industry. Also, helps me with formatting content ("format the following in a CSV format", for example) and organizing my work which helps me with focus and workflow. Oh and it helps me analyze data, SEO and other traffic analytics take me a quarter of the time that it used to.

As for gaming, I lean on it to help with creating content on the fly for my hexcrawl sandbox games. It helps me improvise when needed, it helps me format tables, NPCs, etc etc for easy import into Fantasy Grounds. I also use it as mentioned above but for gaming. "Create a random table of 30 rumors based on the following info and format it for import into Fantasy Grounds: <insert info>". It also helps when creativity and imagination are up against a blank page roadblock. "For this chat I would like you to be an experienced roleplaying game designer and developer....create a list of 20 ideas for Dungeons and Dragons adventures based on the following criteria: <insert criteria>".

It's also fun to see how it makes images from old descriptive text in adventures, like a lot of the old ADD stuff for me.

That's the extremely "short short list." But in both my hobby and work life I'd say "bandwidth, helping me with my weaknesses, focus, and getting the creative juices flowing when you have one of those days". It's hard to be creative 24/7/365 and I have to be.
