I play in an OD&D campaign, but I've been forever looking for a system to run for my sons, now ages 7, 9 & 11. Recently I have settled on C&C. It is simple enough for me to run on the fly, without constantly consulting rule books, and yet provides just the right amount of crunch for us.

To be honest, I have been playing and attempting to DM/GM various games systems for about 25 years. C&C is the first sytem I feel completely comfortable running. To me, the rules disappear and actual game takes over.

I usually play the originals as opposed to clones, but I do own C&C and have found it to be a good game. And last weekend my group tried out Hackmaster Basic and had a FANTASTIC time of it. In fact I believe that out of all of the "old school" style games that are not D&D I believe that Hackmaster would probably be my favorite.

I voted Basic in my haste but actually was thinking of the BRP (Chaosium, inspiration for RuneQuest). That's my kinda old school - each attack can wreck limbs, man...

Fwiw, also getting into Dragon Warriors.

Yes, neither are OD&D clones, I realize.
