Considering how quickly he died to Arya after several seasons of build up, I give him Red Minus.
You're thinking of the white walker ... ;)

I rated it green. I think it could potentially be a little on the niche side, since it's so focused on cold, but it's got a cool theme (ha ha) and mechanics to support it. I'm good with it. The only thing I said I wanted to change was the final feature, which I'd prefer to have be decoupled from Hunter's Mark. I don't like how the 2024 ranger is basically Hunter's Mark the class.

Honestly since they already tied so much of the base class up in hunters mark I think buffing it with your subclass is the best thing they can do.

I know, but it was funny anyway. Close enough to make the joke. :P

Yellow. I think it could use some more thematic cohesion and a damage buff. It does less damage than most other rangers. Why do they get remove curse? What's with the "frightening" theme and abilities? I also thought their capstone doesn't seem like a Ranger subclass capstone. It seems more like a Druid one.

Red.
ranger does not need any more mechanics that force HM to be up 24/7 at the expense of every other spell with conc available to the class.

Exactly what I was going to post. It's interesting but just too weak, like just about everything with Rangers
Actually, in the light of the new MM, I think the ranger class looks way better than I thought. Their only level 4 spell without concentration is freedom of movement.

The only spell that makes you immune to being restrained. So many monsters can di that without save. Petrifying monsters will petrify you if younare still restrained. A ranger just says: nope.

Funny thing: you can't escape grapples with freedom of movement by strict reading: your speed is zero so you have no 5ft to spare... I think specific of the spell trumps general.

I continue to be flabbergasted that this subclass gets a rider to Hunter's Mark but none of the PHB subclasses do. I mean, that's the obvious design space they were creating, similar to how the Rogue's subclass modifies Cunning Strike. This is like, I don't know, adding spell lists to a ranger subclass with Tasha's when none of the 2014 ranger subclasses had spell lists. To me, Ranger and Druid are the two 2024 classes that did not get the fix they needed.
