D&D 5E What (if anything) do you find "wrong" with 5E?

The fecundity of player abilities and the futility of trying to track them all on the standard character sheet.
That's one I never thought of before but seeing it I agree entirely. That little features & traits box on the right side of page1 is almost useless & makes "let me see your sheet" an almost pointless exercise a lot of the time with page2 largely being a completely useless waste of ink surrounding huge carveouts for barely useful records. The whole thing prints out like the goal was to make something that could fit on one page with a few "I'm a R O L E roleplayer" sections tacked on the back since it's still technically a one page character sheet rather than a sheet designed to be a useful representation of much of anything.

We recently started using this rule and love it. It is funny, but in the thread about complaining about asking to make checks, I've found the players actually do talk more about their PCs do instead of saying, "I want to make a perception check."
Doesn't that just bias things even further in the direction of making Full Casters strong in all areas of the game, and Martials weak?

On paper looking at the DMG rules it absolutely seems like it would, simply because the skills aren't split up evenly, and some skills are much more important to gameplay than others, compounded by the Martial classes typically having STR or DEX primaries (and CON secondaries) where the casters have INT/WIS/CHA primaries.

Or does the fact that it's "any check" using that stat instead of skill checks somehow counterbalance this? The issue I see there is 5E is usually pretty good about already putting the skills in place. For example Athletics is already used in Grapple/Shove.

draw your character in the popular kawaii anime style in modern style clothing and you're done!
You literally have an avatar which appears to be drawn in an anime style (wearing completely unrealistic armour to boot). That means it is an arrestable offence, under the Anime Fans, Hypocrisy act of 1998, for you criticise other people's anime choices, with sentence of up to 12 months in Horny Jail, regardless of whether the offence was Horny or not. Please turn around and put your hands behind you so we can apply the fluffy leopard-print handcuffs.

Yup, precisely. We're doing their work for them, and they have no $ reason not to keep doing it that way.
Exactly. Just don't mention how D&D is pay to win just like some video games. The terrible classes are free. The PHB comes with better classes and is $50. The "new" artificer class is in Tasha's which will cost $50. And the beast-mode warlock is in Xanathar's...which will cost you $50.

That hasn't been our experience, at least not yet.

It does make things rather "board", but IMO to harkens back to AD&D and the idea of "roll under" your ability score to do something. It becomes more general in application, and seems to require players to be more specific in details.

Also, with background allowing you to choose any ability, martials commonly choose INT, WIS, or CHA based on background so far. Sure, some "double up" on the physical (STR/DEX), but that has been more the exception so far.

I'd legit play that game.
The rules I laid out are pretty simple, get a group together declare someone the StoryTeller and get to playing make believe. You don't even need character sheets. Just stuff like "I give the goblin a flower! He loves it and lets us pass."

I call the system "Shared Tale Design" or STD for short.
