D&D 5E What (if anything) do you find "wrong" with 5E?

This is one of the reasons I like some of the optional rules from the DMG. Being proficient in an ability instead of specific skills, based on your class...so rogues get proficiency in Dex...and any related "skills."
We recently started using this rule and love it. It is funny, but in the thread about complaining about asking to make checks, I've found the players actually do talk more about their PCs do instead of saying, "I want to make a perception check."

WOTC did exploration better in 3e and 4e. 3e used the "print all the books" method so they eventually printed hazards for all types of exploration and the items/spells/skills to defeat them. 4e had Skill challenges at core and also had rituals to counter hazards.

So if your party trekked through a terrible blizzard made by frost giants, 3e and 4e gave you new rules and advice for it. 5e justhas everyone with cold immunity or resistance make a check.

None of the editions were great at social. 4e was best as it had skill challenges at core and tongues only lasted 10 minutes and had a HS cost. So the fighter who spoke Dwarf had to do the talking in a dwarf town over the bard.
A lot of people had and continue to have huge problems with skill challenges. It is not a panacea mechanic, and it does not work for everyone.

If you don't differentiate between skills governed by the same ability, why have them at all? Just provide a list of things an ability governs, and have the PCs get progressively better at ability checks. It's not how I would it, but it would work.
Um, that's exactly what the game does. Proficiency is a bonus in a specific use or set of uses for an ability. 5E doesn't have "trained only" skills because there are no skill checks, only ability checks in which Proficiency might play a role.

Characters are superhero’s who don’t fear death.

Everything is water down and getting wetter.

I can't even imagine how bland lore wise and "lowest common denominator" the rules will be for 6th ed.

“Making a character: pick whatever species you want, just make up anything. Birdcatvampgirl? Go for it!

Add +2 to one of the 6 stats, but don't worry because stats will barely matter.

Give yourself a couple superpower, like Dark Vision and the power of love!

You don't need weapons because everything can be solved with talking and friendship.

Put your age, name, and draw your character in the popular kawaii anime style in modern style clothing and you're done!"

There is not a lot I find wrong with 5e and but some things could be better and I agree with a lot of the problems identified here I strongly disagree with some of the proposed solutions.
My main area I would like to see some development would be some king of extended skill challenge framework (both party and individual) that could be used to fill gaps. Some thing that could be used as a story template or to create a story template to cover stull like research, crafting, overland travel (either with or without the existing resource based overland travel stuff).
I am almost convince that it could be done within the exsiting rules framework it just needs to be presented in a coherent fashion.

Exactly. It removes skills, essentially. But that ground is covered by being proficient in the ability directly.

I'd legit play that game.
