D&D General What if the Wind Dukes of Aaqa were actually Djinn?

I thought the wind dukes already were djinn (or like uber-djinn). I didn't realize they were different. They're supposed to no longer exist, though, right?

As they are described as outsiders native to the Inner Planes, in my games, I would tend to categorize the Wind Dukes as Fey.

What I'm going with as a draft (like @Paul Farquhar I do like to leave it a little vague):

  • Wind Dukes were a fifth species of genie (djinn, efreet, dao, marid ) with a lawful bent named vaati. (Why they are lawful?, don't know yet)
  • The Vaati eventually came to lead/rule the largest empire back in the "elemental" days, including the other genies.
  • Empire lost when Vaati gave everything to save the cosmos from Chaos (Queeb of Chaos/Mishka/Rod of Seven Parts)
  • Remaining Wind Duke communities are fading and isolated.
  • Noble Genies of other species have Vaati bloodlines somewhere in their heritage.

I believe in 4E they were said to be some sort of angel allied with Bahamut but who knows what is and isn't still canon from 4E.

This is what I remember as well, the Wind Dukes were his angelic envoys — though with the caveat that angels in 4E were a much more eclectic group than in 5E.

If you are using the Fizban’s First World as part of your creation mythos, Bahamut predates all other gods (except Tiamat), so you can still use the connection of the Wind Dukes as his agents even if they’re not angels per se.

I think it kind of makes sense, having this Lawful Good stronghold in the Elemental Planes be tied to the Seven Heavens. I’m not sure I’d make it widespread knowledge, though. It could be a nice twist.

My Mythos does have the Sumerian style Tiamat as the first power in the cosmos, so maybe they could be ties with Bahamut.

I will strongly consider.
